Today was the day that we got to start moving in to our dorms. College wasn't for another couple weeks but everyone was getting set up this weekend. My parents and I were walking down the halls of my large college, carrying boxes and bags of thing I would need.
"Room 61C" I read aloud so my parents could help me look. As I looked down at my paper I bumped into someone. I looked up to see a face that looked sort of familiar, I couldn't put my finger on it tho. She looked older, like she had been at this school for a while.
"Sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going! Are you a freshman, I could help you find your room." She said quickly. I smiled and mumbled a thank you as she read my paper. She lead me and my parents to my room which surprisingly wasn't that far away.
"Oh, I'm Mali-Koa by the way. You can call me Mali." She smiled and stuck her hand out for me to shake.
"Hi I'm Elyse, thanks again for helping me find my room." I shook her hand and smiled.
"I hope I see you around, the college is big so sometimes they mix underclassmen and upperclassmen in rooms together. Maybe we'll have classes together but I really have to run, my younger brother is probably waiting." She rushed, and hurried to leave waving a bit.
My parents opened the door to my room and we walked inside to find a girl already sitting on the bed. She looked up from her book and smiled at us.
"Hi, welcome I'm Abigail or Abbie for short. You must be Elyse its so nice to meet you." She stood up and stuck her hand out. I smiled and shook her hand, everyone seemed so nice here I loved it. My parents helped me set everything up and shortly after it was time to say goodbye. They were about to cry as we hugged and said our goodbyes, not to sound heartless but I was so happy to finally be out of high school.
Finally they left and I was alone with Abbie, looking around our small room. It wasn't decorated yet but our beds were made and cloths were put away. We decided to get up and explore the campus instead of sitting around all day. We checked in the mirror and walked out of our room. Our dorm was close to the door leading outside so it wasn't a long walk.
We found the cafeteria first and decided to skip it. As we were walking away I saw Mali again walking with what I assumed was her mom.
"Elyse! Hi again" she giggled. "This is my mom and I would introduce you to my brother and dad but they decided to run off." Her and her mom laughed a bit but had to leave soon after. So Abbie and I decided to keep walking, we soon found our way to where the classes were and walked around a bit trying to get familiar with the area.
After a while we got bored with just walking around and she wanted to try to make friends with other people. Abbie seemed like a ton of fun but after high school I wasn't much of a social person so I told her I would meet her back in the room. She didn't question me and waved before running off somewhere.
I slowly walked back to my room still taking in the huge campus, I had been here a few times but the thought of this being my new home for a while still is a bit scary. My only friends at this point were Abbie and Mali if you even call them friends. I still prefer this life to my life before, having Calum out of my life has made my life 10x easier.
When I got in my dorm I laid straight on my bed and pulled my phone out of my pocket. Since high school ended not many people have stayed friends, even the best of friends have been loosing contact. I didn't have too many friends which made it easier to loose contact with them, if that makes any sense.
I was scrolling through instagram when my eyes started getting heavy, the clock said it was only 8:30. It wasn't late but I had had a long day so I decided to find something comfortable to sleep in and get tucked in. I had black workout shorts and an All Time Low shirt on. I plugged my phone in and started getting into bed when I heard the door open, still not used to having a roommate I might have screamed a little. I calmed myself a little when I saw Abbie walk through but she was with someone. A boy with really weird blonde hair walked through, he had a Green Day shirt on with black boots and skinny jeans.
"Wow, you look comfortable Elyse" Abbie said a bit rudely. I looked down at myself and smiled apologetically at her. I started thinking a bit, I swear this boy looks familiar, I've never seen anyone with that color hair but he seemed to know me too. Maybe we went to high school together or maybe I was just crazy.
"I like your shirt, All Time Low is super cool" the boy said smiling, he put his hand out for me to shake.
"Michael" he said still smiling.
"Elyse" I said back. At this point Abbie looked bored and annoyed, she rolled her eyes briefly before pulling Michael's attention back to her. She pulled him outside but left the door open a crack giving me the perfect opportunity to eavesdrop.
"I'm so sorry she's here, I thought she would have found friends by now and we could have the room to ourselves but apparently not." Abbie groaned. I couldn't tell if she was purposely being rude or if I was just misunderstanding the conversation. Michael insisted that it was fine and they could go back to his dorm with Luke, don't know who that is but maybe all four of us could end up being friends.
I smiled at the thought and found my way back to bed. As I was getting settled my phone buzzed,it was a text from my mom
Mom: goodnight sweetheart have a good day tommorow, we love you and miss you xx
Me: love you too mom! Goodnight and I'll speak to you soon xx!
And that was my first night at my new college. It could've gone a whole lot worse to say the least. I think I am going to like it here and i can't wait for classes to finally start so hopefully I can make a few new friends.
Thank you so much if you actually read this book. If you know her this Abbie is I fact supposed to be like Abigail Breslin. Classes will start in the next chapter and I hope you all like it
