I was nervous as hell as we rode silently to my parents' house. Erik was calm just driving along. "Don't worry, baby," he told me. He sounded so sure of himself I nearly believed him. "Your man got this." I placed my head in hands and groaned. Why did I let him come along? "They're bound to know about me sooner or later cause you're mine." Why did I agree to be his? Oh yeah, I was thinking with something other than my head.

I took a quick glance in the mirror and tried to fix my hair as best as possible. I washed up before we left and I sprayed on a little of his cologne but mama always had a way of knowing what I did and who I did it with. No doubt my parents would know what we did. Five minutes later my parents mansion comes into view. I look over at Erik. At least he looked decent in a black button down shirt and light jeans with boots. First appearances were everything with my parents. We pull into the long driveway.

Erik opens my door and places a large hand on the back of my neck like he really owns me. "Could you at least hold hands with me like a normal couple would," I protest.

"Nope." He guides me up the steps. I felt belittled and childish. I take a deep breath hearing laughter coming from the living room. It wasn't just family here but the whole goddamned neighborhood. Most likely the church people.

I try to pull away realizing I can't do this but his hold tightens on my neck forcing me to stay rooted in place. I open the door as Erik guides me in. "Evening folks," Erik says. I thought I might die of embarrassment. I hear a glass drop and break. Daddy stood in the middle of the crowd with a look of disbelief and fear as he gazed upon Erik. "Hello, Mayor Michaelson," he mocked. "I see you've already prepared the ceremony. Good evening, Reverend White."

My mother's eyes were wider than her plate of apple pie. "Honey, what is he talking about? Who is this man? Why does he have our daughter?"

"Everyone," my father announced. "This gathering is over. Please leave."

"No let them stay and witness," Erik says with a comfortable smile like he didn't just crash the party.

"Erik, what are you doing?" I whisper to him. "And get your hand off my neck."

"Claiming what's rightfully mind. Just ask your father. He knows all about it."

"Kaori, get over here! Right now! Get away from that man." Of course I was going to obey my mother. I move out of Erik's hold. He let's me which is more unsettling than if he would have kept me captive. He's too at ease. Too comfortable.

Erik smirks in my father's vicinity. "You really want to get into a battle of wills with me, Maleak? You won't win." He crossed his huge arms across his chest, spreading long legs. His stance made him resemble an unmovable mountain.

"Get. Out. Of. My. House!" My father roars.

"I'll be back for my birthright. " He gives a pointed stare in my direction.

My eyes say to him, what the fuck, before he walks out. He doesn't answer of course.

...

I lay awake in bed that night. My mind still wheeling around the events that happen that evening. My father was furious. Hollering and screaming at Kevin making him swear to keep Eric away from me. He even went as far as asking for a restraining order. Which I don't know how that would work considering Erik has never hurt me. What the fuck is going on? My phone lights up with a text. It's from an unknown number but I know its him. Erik.

You alright, sweetgirl.

What happened tonight?

I can't tell you right now but I promise I will explain. Do you trust me?

I send him a hysterical emoji. Erik, I don't know you.

Now that my pussy isn't wet and his dick isn't inside me my mind is much more clear. Maybe... maybe we should just take this slow. You know just hang out.

He answers immediately. I'm not most men, Kaori. We had sex. In my book, that's something I don't take lightly. You. Are. Mine. Don't you EVER forget that.

Oh... he's one of those. How do I possibly extricate myself from this situation? Honestly I thought the whole yes, sir/I own you/ you're mine was just a sex game. I didn't think he was serious. I was so wrong. He was serious about everything.

Kaori?

I just ignored his last text and went to sleep dreaming about him being here in my room. Violet eyes watching me intently as I slept.

"Good morning, mama." I kiss her cheek as she stirred a batch of pancakes. Mama quickly placed down the pancake batter and grabbed me.

"Did that bad white man hurt you?" I nearly laugh but stow my humor. Why do they always treat me like a baby?

"No, mama. I'm fine." She places her hands on her voluptuous hips. Mama was a full-figured woman. Her dark eyes narrow.

She points a finger in my direction. "What the hell were you doing with him-

"That's what I like to know," dad stalks into the kitchen with his briefcase and right behind him is Kevin followed by his wife Winona.

"What is this? An intervention." I cross my arms.

"You will stay away from that man!" Daddy barked. "Even if I have to have Kevin follow you all day you will stay away from him!"

"Baby, calm down before you give yourself a heart attack."

"You don't have to worry. I learned my lesson. He's weird anyway," I mumble then shoot a group text to Erin and Sam walking away. I was already over it. I'm not fucking with Erik anymore. End of discussion.

911, bitches.

Meet @ our spot.
Erin texts back right away.

Guys, my dad told me some creepy ass shit about Kaori's future baby daddy you won't believe but he made me swear not to tell anyone. Sam texted.

Bitch you better tell us!

Ok! @ the library tho.

According to daddy, the brookheimers were the leaders of a cult here in CedarCreek. Every year on a specific night during tourist season. They'd hunt humans, killing them for sport but that's not even the worst part. To keep the cult strong, the brookheimers wanted the males of the family to reproduce. They would arrange marriages but get this... the males of the family only desired to breed with African American women. They believed black children were born more healthier and stronger than any other race.

I start to feel nauseous.

I'll be back to claim my birthright.

Claiming what is rightfully mine
.

I shake my head. No way. That can't be.

"Who the fuck is gonna believe some stupid urban legend?" Erin snaps me out my gloomy reverie. "Besides what does this have to do with Kaori's man."

Sam shrugged. "My dad said Erik is related to the Brookheimers in some way."

"Oari are you ok? You're awfully quiet?"

"We had sex yesterday," I blurted. "And we used no condoms."

"Like I said future baby daddy," Erin says to Sam.

"But after the whole thing that went down at my parents house I don't ever wanna see him again."

Sam's eyes widen. "Oh yeah?"

"Yep."

"That's gonna be kinda hard cause he right behind you."

I spun so fast I nearly fell out of my seat. There he was dressed in an all black business suit with a thin red tie. He looked sexy, sophisticated. "What the fuck?!"

"Can we talk in private-

"So where WE finna talk in private?" Erin answers. When the crew bond too strong. He looks over my head at Erin. Violet eyes narrow for a brief moment before returning to me.

"I just want to apologize for my behavior the other night. May I take you for coffee?" His smile is gorgeous like the sun rising over a meadow at dawn.

"Look, whatever is going on between you and my family I don't want any part of. I think we shouldn't see each other anymore." Anger quickly flashes across his face before it smoothed out into an impassive expression.

"How many people do I have to hurt, Kaori?" He says so softly I thought I imagined it. Erik gives me a quick once over and then leaves.

"Kaori, I think your folks are right. You should stay away from him. I got major creep vibes."

"Nah we need to get a shotgun, a pistol, garlic, and some holy water to keep that fool away from her. Did you see you see the way he was looking at her...?"

Erin, Sam, and I were walking to the lake when we I got the phone call. "H-hey, baby."

"Mama?" Mama Rose hated phones. She never used the phone unless it was an emergency.

"Baby, could you get home as soon as possible."

"Yeah, of course."

"Ok. Love you." The line goes dead. I stare at my phone for a long moment. Mama sounded nervous.

"Guys, I have to go. I'll talk to you later."

I arrive at home to find Reverend White standing in the middle of our living room with Erik standing before him in a tuxedo. My family stood on the side holding glasses of liquor even mama who didn't usually drink.

"What's going on?"

Mama Rose hands her glass to daddy. She looks terrified but tries to mask it with a smile. "Don't be silly, baby girl." She never calls me baby girl. "Its your wedding day! Let's get you ready."
