While Jericho was at the Gym I took the opportunity to set up his party. It took an entire week to plan. I had to practically be sneaky because Jericho was growing suspicious of me. God, he had so many friends that wanted show up and they all did. Mark and Jake helped me out a lot with the planning, mostly because I didn't know who to invite besides the friends I've already met. The party was taking place in our huge backyard. It was nearly getting packed as everyone began to show up.

“Hey, Aunt Mona.” I turn to face Trenton Jr. who was holding some gifts for Jericho. “Where do you want to place these?” Carla, Elizabeth, and Trenton were here just for Jericho’s birthday. They were his big surprise.

“Put those over there,” I pointed.

“Yes, Aunt Mona.” I smile at him as he stalked off.

“He so mannerable,” Mackayla said to Carla, rubbing her stomach.

“That's because I started the discipline at an early age,” Carla shared. “My advice is don't wait until their defiant teens to want to discipline. Start when their toddlers.”

Chase laughed. “I want to see what happens when Trenton actually becomes a teen. This should be interesting.” Carla, Mackayla, and I all glared at him. He cleared his throat.

“Dismiss yourself,” Mackayla commanded, teasing. Chase smiled and kissed her forehead.

“Remember honey-bee, I allow you to be dominant,” he said. His green eyes twinkled with something I couldn't quite fathom, but Mackayla did. She didn't say another word. I laughed to myself. Thank God she finally met a man who could actually handle her. Because all the men Mackayla had before Chase she made look like a bunch of pussies.

Elizabeth and Gigi both came out of the house with pots of food. It was supposed to be Gigi and I cooking, but Elizabeth insisted. Said she wanted to make herself useful. “Where's the Dj?” Gigi asked.

“He says he's like ten minutes away.”

Mark, who noticed Gigi, left the group of guys just for her— like he was on a mission. “I can't wait to taste your cooking, baby... and something else,” Mark said and grabbed Gigi, kissing her neck. She giggled.

“Get a room!”

“Yeah, Jericho's mother is like– right here. Have some respect, guys.”

“I don’t mind. It's nice to see young love,” Elizabeth said, giving that secret-knowing smile, I found it means she knows something everyone else doesn't. I gazed at Gigi and Mark with a suspicious look. What's going on between them? Gigi has been very tight-lipped lately which wasn't like her. She caught me staring and instantly looked away. Yep, there's definitely something going on. I’m starting to believe Elizabeth is psychic.

“The dj is here," someone called. I turned to see the dj and his crew.

“Where do you want me to set up, shorty?” he asked, removing the toothpick from his mouth. Gigi snorted. Did he just called me shorty?

“Over there,” I pointed. He gave me a once over as he walked passed. I held up my ring finger to let him know I’m married and extremely happy at that. His crew followed him. I checked the time on my phone. “Jericho is gonna be here real soon.” I gaze around. Everything was just about in order.

Elizabeth's hand flew to her heart and she smiled. “I'm a little nervous.”

“You take it easy, Bess. You don’t want to get your heart too worked up.” I admired the way Carla took care and looked out for Elizabeth. I shake my head. That was Jericho's job and something was going to be done about it.

“He’s here!” Jake, our look-out shouted. Jericho walked out back wearing a t-shirt and basketball shorts. His gym bag was over a shoulder.

“Surprise!” Everyone shouted. The look on Jericho's face scared the shit out of me. Elizabeth gasped. Jericho looked as if he wanted to murder everyone here. He balled his fist and left. I ran after him.

“Jericho, please.”

“You went behind my back! I told you I didn't want a party and you threw one anyway!” He was acting so childish. All this over a party?! These people were here for him. “You brought my mother and brother’s wife here!” We stalked through the house towards the frontdoor. He pulled it open and slammed it shut after him, in my face. I opened it and walked out, following him.

“Jericho, just listen-

“You’ve gone too far!”

“Jericho!” A commanding voice called. My eyebrows furrowed out of curiosity as I turned to see Elizabeth standing in the doorway. She looked... different. Her chin was held high in a regal manner. Spine was as straight as a pencil. Her demeanor was authoritative. Suddenly, I got a glimpse into how she kept two very rambunctious boys in line.

He spun around to face her as she stalked up and slapped him so hard the sound of the slap rang throughout the driveway. “How dare you,” she demanded. It was chilling how soft her tone was. “How dare you put us through this. All your father wanted was to see you before he died. It was his dying wish for Christ sake and you couldn't even give him that.” Jericho's face was impassive as he stared down at his mother, saying absolutely nothing.

“I’m messed up," he whispered after a moment. “I don't want you to see me like this.”

“Get over yourself everyone has issues, Jericho. Some worst than others, but love is unconditional. I'm your mother and I love you no matter how bad your “issues” may be.” Elizabeth grabbed Jericho and wrapped him into her motherly embrace. He remained rooted in place, but once he realized she wasn't going to let him go he brought his arms around her, returning the hug. I smile, my eyes tearing up.

“Sorry to break up this family reunion,” Detective Owens said. “But I need to ask Mona a few questions-

“Get the fuck off my property,” Jericho commanded to Detective Owens then grabbed me and his mother and led us back to the party.

“Let’s turn the fuck up!” Someone shouted as they saw us approach. I winced, but Elizabeth just laughed.
