I was woken by my phone buzzing on the side of the bed. 10:30am. By the time we were ready, that would have been another morning almost wasted.

It was Amelie.

Hi Mads
It's nice to hear from you. I'm sorry we left the way we did; I just knew that it was the best thing to do for both of us to fully enjoy ourselves. Anyway, I see your Instagram stories last night. It looks like you're having a great time. Keep enjoying Hot Girls Summer. Have fun.
Stay safe
Amelie

Hear from me? Instagram stories? I hadn't sent her anything the night previously.
I scrolled through my previous text messages.

I don't know where you are or what you're doing, but I wanted to just let you know we're having a great time here on Gili.

I hadn't sent it, and I wasn't so drunk that I wouldn't have remembered sending it.
I instantly realised who it was.
Frankie. So much for making notes. She was too busy bitching directly to Amelie.
And the Instagram stories, well, that was kind for Amelie to lie through her teeth saying we looked like we were having a great time when it was simply Frankie swinging the phone around as she clambered across the sofa.
I chose to ignore the text. Not because I wanted to leave her hanging, but because firstly, I didn't want to name and shame Frankie- that wouldn't have helped either of them, but I also didn't know what to reply. She was so civil in her response to such a narky message, she deserved to be left alone. I put the phone down and addressed the group.
''Come on, lets actually do something today,'' I requested to the group as they all eventually clambered out of their rooms. Not only did I want everyone to forget the evening before, primarily the notepad, but another part of me envied Amelie, suspecting that she was actually visiting the wonders of Bali that she quite obviously predicted we was never going to do.

''Like what?'' Frankie replied
I racked my brain for a famous tourist attraction that we could all visit.
''Why don't we go to the monkey forest?'' I asked
''We could. But wouldn't we need to book a night on mainland rather than ferry back and forth in one day. Why not another day?'' Mike replied as he slobbed across the sofa.
He had a point. All of Bali's highlights were on mainland, 4 hours each way from here.
''I'll sort it, along with accommodation for tomorrow,'' I replied.

Whilst the rest of the group resumed their day of leisure, I returned to the bedroom and began to organise the following days, just as I had organised the entire trip previously
