It's been a few months since Izuku was declared quirkless. He felt destroyed when he found that out. He felt fearful that his sister and friends would forget about him. He felt fearful that he would be useless, worthless, defenseless.
"You're just a Deku!"
"Who would have thought that Izumi's brother would be a quirkless freak?"
"Why do you keep clinging around us you Deku!"
When he first heard those words, he was crushed. Why were they doing this to him? He was just different from them, so why were they treating him like this? It only caused him hurt and confusion.
"Shut up you bully!"
"Say that again and I'll blast your ass to next Tuesday."
"He's not a freak! He's just different!"
When Izuku was first called a quirkless freak, it hurt him. It felt like someone had shot a hole through his heart. He almost cried because it was said with so much disdain. He didn't get a chance to cry though since his first tear never left his eye. The kid that called him Deku sure cried though. The sound that resulted from Katsumi slapping the kid sure as hell resulted in many tears being shed. He only heard a slap, the sound of crying, A very angry Katsumi and what he assumed was an agreeing grunt from Katsuki and a very firm agreeing yell from his sister. This really helped him since it was clear that he wasn't alone.
Of course, things didn't always end in such a peaceful manor. This was most apparent whenever Izuku was with just Katsuki. Out of the group of 4, Izuku and Katsuki were probably closest to each other. Of course, they loved their sisters and families but they just felt a closer connection to each other. (This isn't BakuDeku, FUCK NO!) They were the person the other trusted the most. And the person they swore to protect first and foremost. Of course, this meant they would protect each other from the average bully. Izuku much preferred a diplomatic approach to de escalate things. Most people seemed to be growing a soft spot for Izuku though and were more than willing to accept his requests. Katsuki favorite phrase to use whenever someone was messing with Izuku was "Say that again and I'll blast your ass to next Tuesday."
Was it socially acceptable or normal for a 4 - 7 year old to be swearing and threatening basically murder? Absolutely not! Did Katsuki or anyone else aside from Izuku care? Not in the slightest. What they did care about was that it scared the older kids who still didn't like Izuku into either tolerating him or just leaving him alone.
The next time someone tried doing something like that to him, they were all doing a group activity. His sister was picked as a team leader as she always was. She waited a few rounds before picking Izuku to be on her team. By now it had been 2 weeks since her, Katsuki, and Katsumi proved they would defend him. By now the students either just accepted that they couldn't get to Izuku or actually decided to look past Izuku being quirkless. Well most of the students did anyways. 1 student in particular had it out for Izuku simply because he was quirkless. He always seemed to find ways to bully Izuku without leaving a trace of it being him. It seems like the constant defending of Izuku as well as everyone else no longer bullying him got to the kid though since when Izumi picked Izuku as part of her team, he snapped.
"You're really gonna pick that quirkless freak over a normal person!"
The room seemed to get quieter than it was before that outburst. Everyone seemed shocked that he would say something like that. They all knew he had disliked Izuku for a long while, but even that seemed extreme. The silence of the room was broken by a sound that caused many to feel sadness and 3 people in particular were filled with anger.
Izuku crying was something that would happen from time to time. Of course, those times were now rare as he was treated as a person after Katsumi defended him and his friends and sister showed they cared for him. That rare crying they heard was usually weaker than the crying they were hearing then. This crying had far more emotion behind it. This was less crying and more so weeping. The tears that were being shed by Izuku were accompanied by true pain.
The reactions of the students varied widely. One student in particular was still furious at the situation. Why bother picking that freak over him or anyone else that would have been useful. This fury turned to anger, then to mild confusion as he realized nobody seemed to be on his side. This confusion then quickly went to fear and then from fear to horror. Though he was angry with the events that had just transpired, the remaining students' emotions ranged from disgust towards him to absolute fury.
"You take that back."
"Pardon?"
"I said, '' YOU TAKE THAT BACK!"
Though most students were only disgusted or angered with what was said, 3 students in specific were beyond angry. 3 people were a fraction of a second away from making that kid regret he was born.
Katsuki was pissed. Who the hell was this to claim that one of his only true friends was a freak? Who the hell was he to think he would get away with this!
Katsumi was livid. She was seconds away from unleashing hell. Who did this kid think he was to claim that Izuku was somehow lesser than everyone else just because he lacked a quirk? What crazed thoughts did he have to think he would be able to get away with this?
Izumi ... Izumi was angered beyond description. She couldn't understand why people were like this to her beloved brother. Why some people were so horrible to Izuku because he lacked something they had. She couldn't understand, and she wouldn't accept it.
Izumi was well aware that public quirk usage was illegal. She was aware that using her quirk on someone else without good reason was seen as barbaric. That didn't matter to her though. Illegal or not, she saw this as a good enough reason to use her quirk. The boy who up to this point was trying to silently exit the classroom was caught by Izumi's quirk before being brought face to face with Izumi. She didn't even need to say anything to him before he apologized to Izuku. It wasn't a forced apology either. The one he gave was genuine, and Izumi could tell.
Though still sniffling, Izuku was able to accept the apology. That was all Izumi had wanted to hear. She didn't bother setting the boy down gently. She didn't drop him either though. She more or less 'gently' threw him to the floor where he laid until the day ended. This was all that was needed to stop any bullying or discrimination towards Izuku. It was made known that not only were the 3 strongest students protecting Izuku, it was made public that they cared for him and saw him as equal to them. They see him as their light in a troubling world. They see him as one of the greatest people they'll ever get to know. They see him as nothing short of their everything.
Simply put, they care for him.
