(adj.) too great or extreme to be expressed or described in words
Otto looked himself up and down in the mirror, over and over again as if it could change anything. A gentle hand rested on his shoulder and he shifted his eyes to focus on Geoff, dressed in a charcoal grey suit with a blue-grey tie to match his own suit. Geoff gave him a small smile in the mirror.
"Take a breath." Otto did as told, inhaling sharply through his nose and exhaling shakily through his mouth. "How you feelin'?"
"Honestly?"
Concern passed over Geoff's usually careful eyes. Much like himself, Geoff was calculated. He overthought most things to appear calm and collected. Today though, they were both having a hard time staying calm. Otto because he was getting married to the love of his life and wanted to make today perfect for Awsten. Geoff because he wanted to make today perfect for the both of them.
As quickly as the emotion entered his eyes, it was gone. "Yeah, honestly."
Otto took another shaky breath and turned to face him. "I'm really fuckin' nervous." Otto fixed his bowtie for the umpteenth time that hour and shook out his hands. "Why am I so nervous? I mean, it's just Awsten, right?"
Sighing, Geoff shrugged. "I mean, I've never been married, but I think it's okay to be nervous." Taking him by the shoulder again, Geoff led him to the couch in the room where they were getting ready. "But, Lucas has the rings, I have your speech, Lisa has everything perfect and has for weeks, and you and Awsten are going to have the best day of your lives."
Otto's eyes filled with tears. Laughing, Geoff wiped them away. "Thanks, G."
"Yeah, whatever," Geoff shrugged him off. "I bet if I were to text Jawn, him and Awsten are having a very similar conversation."
Laughing slightly, Otto felt his chest relax at the mention of Awsten. "I wouldn't be surprised. Not to be dramatic," he prefaced, "but I haven't seen Awsten in three days and I fuckin' miss him."
Geoff smiled, although Otto knew he wanted to scold him for being so outrageously cliché. "Soon. First looks are in, like, five minutes."
His chest tightened again. They were just leaving to go downstairs to the garden where their photos were going to be taken. "Oh, God," Otto muttered, standing again to look in the mirror. He fixed his hair once more and checked his teeth for food in the mirror despite having not eaten anything all morning due to nerves. "Are you sure it's okay?" Otto worried, fixing the maroon flower pinned to his suit.
Geoff stepped forward to straighten his bowtie for him. "Looks good," he said earnestly. "I know it's a stressful day. Kinda a sad day," he added, alluding to Otto's family situation. "But you gotta calm down just a bit. You're making me nervous. Me!"
Otto scoffed at that, but felt better somehow. "You're right. I'm sorry."
"No sorries today. Now come on, we've gotta go. If we're late Lisa might actually kill us."
Walking downstairs, Lisa stopped Otto by the door to go outside. "Nuh uh," she said simply, putting a hand on his chest to stop him. "Not your turn yet. Awsten is just finishing up." Otto just nodded, adjusting his suit jacket and tapping his foot, and running his hands through his hair. Lisa swatted his hands and fixed his hair for him. "Nerves?"
Otto shrugged. "I want today to go well," he muttered. "For Awsten." Shaking his head, he gave her a smile. "Thanks for your help today. We really appreciate it."
As she muttered out a simple no problem, Lisa's phone dinged. "Alright, showtime boys. It's time for your photos," Lisa said, retucking her blouse into her skirt. Just as Geoff and Otto turned to go, Lisa called for him one last time. "Wait, Otto. Just before you go, I wanted to say something."
