last night

I stayed up all night thinking about y/n. Seeing her hurt like that did something me. There was no denying the guilt I felt. I paced around my room and scolded myself for letting that happen. Every time I tried to close my eyes, the image of her on the ground appeared, and I instantly opened them back up.

that morning

I eventually slept though. Not long, but enough to wake up eager to see her. I got up and made my way to her house as soon as I could. When I rang the doorbell her dad answered and informed me that she wasn't home yet. Fuck.

"Do you mind if I wait inside for her?" I asked.

"Yeah sure, you can wait in her room upstairs. It's the last door."

"Thank you." I went to her room and waited. As I did, I looked around and noticed how clean and neat she kept her room. Everything was in the right place and kept in good condition. I looked around some more, but y/n interrupted my thoughts when she walked through the door.

"Y/n. I'm sorry I just needed to see if you were okay." I quickly said stepping to her, but she  stepped back. I felt even worse that she didn't feel safe around me anymore. "Please you know I would never do that on purpose. " Just as I said that, I looked to her head and noticed the cut. I did that. I hurt her. "I- I uh- I'm so sorry." I couldn't even look at her. I did that. I hurried out her door and down the stairs. I felt nothing in that moment but guilt and disappointment in myself. I rushed to my car and left to the country club. If there was anything I needed, it was to shut my thoughts up.

I walked in and headed straight to the bar. "Three shots." I ordered. The bartender slid me them and away I drank. I lost count of the drinks and shots I had. At least my thoughts faded away and all I could feel was the burning liquid in my throat. My vision blurred and I didn't remember anything after that.

I made my way home from surfing with JJ. It was a good way to get my mind off things and destress. When I got home, my phone started ringing and Rafe's name appeared on the screen.

"Hello?" I was a bit surprised that he called.

"I'm so sorry y/n. I didn't... mean what I did." Rafe's slurred voice came through the speaker.

"Rafe? Are you okay?"

"I messed up. I'm sorry..."

"Look I'm coming to get you, where are you?"

"Another shot!" He yelled in the distance.

"Stay where you are."

I hung up the phone and texted Sarah.

𝗬/𝗡 - Do you know where Rafe is?

𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗛 - No why? Is everything okay?

𝗬/𝗡 - Do you know anywhere where he goes a lot?

𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗛 - He mostly goes to the country club, but are you sure everything is okay?

 𝗬/𝗡 - I think he's drunk, but I'm going to get him.

I headed straight to my car, starting it up. I made my way to the country club in hopes that's where he was. I walked inside and my heart sunk a little. I saw Rafe downing drink after drink. It almost looked like he was used to it.

"Rafe are you okay?" I questioned as I walked to him.

"You actually came."

"Why wouldn't I?"

"Because of that." He pointed to my cut. There was guilt in his eyes.

"Look Rafe, I forgive you. I know you didn't mean to. Please let me take you home now."

He softened a little and slowly nodded his head. "Sure."

On impulse, I grabbed his arm and guided him with me. He stumbled with almost every step, and considering he was 6' and I was 5'6, it was a bit hard for me to support his body. But we eventually got in my car and I started driving to his house.

"My dad's gonna kill me." He mumbled, but loud enough so that I heard.

"Why?"

"He said he'll kill me if I ever came home drunk again." He laughed to himself.

"Then, you can stay at mine." I offered and changed course to my house.

"Why are helping me?"

"I uh-," There was more to why I was helping him, I knew that. Yet I don't think I understood it, and a part of me wanted to deny it. So that's what I was gonna do. "Because you're a friend. And friends always help each other, right?"

"Right." He said, sounding a little disappointed.

We made it to my house and I walked him to my room as quietly as possible. I guided him to my bed and laid him down. When I did, he fell fast asleep. I took his shoes and jacket off, then put my blanket over him. He looked like he found comfort in his sleep, like it made his pain go away. And that broke my heart. I couldn't sleep just yet, so I sat on my balcony and watched the waves. Soon enough though, I grew tired and headed to bed. It wasn't easy falling asleep though considering Rafe was right next to me.

𝐀/𝐍 - Hey guys, I hoped you like this chapter and let me know what you thought. :) Sorry that's it's a short one, but it's meaningful!
