It was the next day and I woke up feeling, bad. I didn't get much sleep because I kept replaying the incident with Rafe and Camden. It caught me off guard, and I never expected Rafe to act like that. I sat up, held my head in my hands, and let out a sigh. I think about him too much. Especially since I needed to keep my promise to myself and forget about him. Yet every time I'm so close to doing that, he shows up and we find ourselves in another situation. My phone buzzed and I immediately pull myself out of my thoughts.
𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗗𝗘𝗡 - Ever been golfing?
𝗬/𝗡 - Good morning to you too, and no I haven't.
𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗗𝗘𝗡 - Perfect, I'll pick you up at 9 :)
I smiled and got ready. I did my usual routine for going out and it was getting close to 9. I went downstairs and saw my dad with Cynthia. They looked stressed, but smiled as I entered the room.
"y/n! Good morning honey, where are you off to?" Cynthia smiled.
"Golfing." I smiled back. I could feel tension in the air so I grabbed a water out of the fridge.
"y/n when you have the time, can we have a talk?" My dad spoke up. He fidgeted with his fingers and looked down.
"Yeah, sure." I answered. My heart was beginning to race and I was curious to find out what he wanted to talk about. Just then my phone buzzed and Camden said he was here. "I have to go, but I'll let you know when we can talk." I smiled shortly and made my way outside.
"Have fun!" Cynthia called to me.
I walked to Camden's car and got in. "How's your hangover?" I laughed.
He smiled and laughed. "Probably better than yours."
The drive to the country club was fairly fun and we had an easy-going conversation. We arrived and got the equipment for golf.
"I want to apologize for what Rafe did to you last night, it was uncalled for." I spoke up.
"Why are you apologizing for him?"
"It just felt like I needed to. He's most likely not gonna do it himself." We started to head towards the golf course. "Plus, you didn't deserve that."
He smiled and pulled me into a hug. "You're too kind."
The day was going by smoothly and we were having a blast. I wasn't great at golf but Camden made me feel like an expert. He was sweet and generous, so maybe not all the kooks are stuck up and spoiled. We were heading to our last hole and I saw two guys beating up someone. They look oddly familiar. As I stared a little longer, I noticed. Pope. He was the guy getting beat up. Topper and Rafe were beating him. Before I knew I ran over and pushed Rafe away before he could land another kick.
"Pope! Are you okay?" I asked, inspecting his body. I was filled with rage. I turned to Rafe and Topper who looked surprised to see me. "You sick fucks! What the actual fuck were you thinking?" I yelled.
"What's going on?" Camden asked as he joined the conversation.
"Leave y/n." Rafe said. His face was difficult to read. He seemed, mad? Disappointed? Embarrassed?
"No. You can't beat up my friend and expect me to just leave him."
"Rafe's right. You need to leave." Topper decided to chime in.
"The fuck I do. I can't believe this." I helped Pope off the ground and started walking him towards the country club. I was livid. Seeing that from Rafe was infuriating me more than I liked. I hated seeing him hurt someone I loved. The pouges have been few of the only welcoming people in this town, and I was grateful. "I'm so sorry Pope."
"You don't need to apologize y/n. They're just assholes." Pope reassured me.
"Yes they are." I agreed. I helped Pope with his injuries and he left back to JJ. I sat in the lounge area by the country club pool with my head in my hands.
"y/n." Rafe spoke from in front of me.
I laugh at yet another coincidence. I think about him, and he shows up, ironic. I stood and looked him in his eyes. His stare made me feel weak, but there was no way in hell I'd let him know that. "Why'd you do that?" I simply asked.
"We don't get along."
I scoff. "Grow up."
He laughs. "Grow up? Really?"
"Yes really. Beating someone up just because you don't get along, that's pathetic. You're pathetic."
His face and demeanor turned cold.
"You know what Rafe, I think you were right from the start. I can't be around you. You smoke crack and beat up my friends, and quite frankly you're so caught up in your own world you don't even recognize the damage you do to people around you. We shouldn't be friends and we shouldn't hangout. You were right."
He just stared at me. No thought behind his eyes. I was staring to feel a little uncomfortable being stared at so intensely. Then he softly grabbed my face and pressed his lips to mine. The kiss was short and sweet. A kiss that I could tell meant so much more than an innocent gesture. I wasn't sure what to expect, I never do from him, but this was far from what I thought he would do. He pulled away, his eyes were still closed and my face was still in his hands. "You're right." He softly said. He finally let go and left without another look at me. What the fuck just happened?
