Anna Hall
"Hey, Riley. How's my schedule today?" I asked Riley, my assistant as I entered my office.
"Hey, Anna. It's packed... again," she replied.
"It's ok. I love helping people and their problems should be heard too." I said.
"Yeah. Where do I keep these files?" she asked.
"Uhh... keep it on that shelf. I'll check it when I have a break and send in the first client." I said.
"Ok. Bye," she said as she went out.
"Bye. Guess today will be pretty busy too." I muttered to myself.
The next 8 hours went on with clients who had to be defended by me or my colleagues for their son, daughter, mother, or father on robbery, murder, missing, domestic violence, drug, and false imprisonment cases. It was just like any day but I never complained and I never will. Oh, another client!
"Hi, sir. How may I... Addy? What... what are you doing here?" I asked with a shocked tone. I mean what is HE doing here?
"Hello, miss Hall. I'd like you to defend me in this case," he said making me laugh quietly.
"Oh really? What case??" I asked controlling my laughter.
"My best friend won't answer any of my calls or texts. So, I need to file a case on her of the idea of our friendship, " he said.
"Oh really? Well, this friend of yours is very busy and she can't answer anyone's calls," I answered.
"Hmm. Well, will she allow me to take her out?" he asked.
"Ok sure. I mean she will. " I replied smiling.
"Good. Hey Annie," he said as we hugged.
"Hey. Sorry, I didn't answer your calls or texts." I said after hugging him.
"It's fine. I understand. I just wanted to surprise you." he said.
"That was a nice surprise. Just give me a minute, I'll keep these on the shelf, and then we can leave." I said.
"Ok sure. I'll be in the car," he told me.
I think you all are wondering why is Adam here even though our parents don't get along. Well, what can I say? We're really good friends. And our dads don't object to that. So that's a positive sign.
I kept the to-be-reviewed files on the shelf and left the office. When I went down, I saw Adam waiting for me. He was so kind that he opened the door for me so I teased him for it. As usual. He drove to our usual restaurant, Dinner in the Sky, where we go for dinner most of the time. It's a cute restaurant. The theme is the sky as you can tell from the name of it.
"What are you thinking?" he asked me as he was driving.
"Hmm? Nothing. Just work." I answered.
"Oh ok. You're quiet today," he commented.
"Oh sorry. So, how was your day?" I asked to break the silence.
"It was fine. The same number of meetings. As usual." he answered.
"How many?" I asked to make conversation.
"Countless. he answered.
"You're funny," I said laughing a little.
"Thank you very much. We're here," he said.
"Yeah," I said.
"Hi, Emme," I said to Emme, the restaurant owner, and our best friend, as we entered the restaurant.
"Hello dear. Hi Adam." she greeted us.
"Hi, Emme. Is a table available for us?" Addy asked.
"Always! Come on," she said and led us to the last table near the philodendron where we sit almost all the time.
"Thanks a lot. I know it's a little late today." I said.
"Oh. It's fine. Here are the menus." she said and gave us the menus.
"Thank you." we thanked her and she left.
"So, what do you want to order?" Addy asked me.
"Anything's fine. I'm still in a working mood." I answered.
"Oh! Bummer. I guess I'll take the Chicken Alfredo and you can have the greek salad with fish." he said making me jump in my seat.
"Noooo!!!" I shouted and everyone started to stare at me. I got embarrassed. "Sorry, everyone." I apologized and lightly kicked Adam for which we frowned in pain.
"You embarrass me so much. " I said.
"That was awesome to watch," he commented.
"Oh really? Want to kick your leg again? Bet that will be fun to watch too." I teased.
"Don't you dare. I can't believe we started fighting like Rita and Ben," he said making me laugh.
"I know right! Thank god, they got along now. Ok, why don't we both get the Chicken Alfredo?" I asked.
"Done," he said.
Then the waiter came and took our dinner. Until our food came, we were talking about our day and Addy was telling me about his office and the staff. The food was delicious as always. After that, we paid the bill even though Emme refused, and left.
"Thanks a lot, Addy. I had a great time." I thanked him as I got out of the car.
"No problem. If you need anything, call me ok? " he said.
"Ok, dad." I teased.
"Hey! I'm just caring for you," he said. How sweet of him!
"I know. Thank you. I will call you if I need you anything. Good night Addy." I said smiling.
"Good night Annie," he said smiling back and drove away.
He's so sweet in every way. Just wish our dads didn't have a problem with each other. I'm so tired. I better head to bed. I went to my room thinking about my day, especially my time with Addy. It was the best. I texted my sis, dad, and Adam good night and slept.
