Beau and I did a grand tour of Italy for our honeymoon. It was something that I'd always wanted to do since I was a little girl, and I was happy to be doing it with my husband by my side.

We spent twelve days traveling through Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento, San Marino, Venice, Verona, Florence, and Cinque Terre. It was such an amazing experience.

The only thing was that we booked our tours before we knew about our baby. I was going to vineyards and not being able to drink wine in fucking Italy.

When we got back to the states, we spent three days in Santa Barbara at a hotel and spa.

"I can't wait to have a bump." I stood in the mirror looking at myself.

"Imagine how cute it's going to be in the summer with sundresses." I looked over at Beau.

He smiled. "You're going to be the cutest pregnant woman ever."

I wasn't an OBGYN but I calculated that our baby would be here around mid to late June. I couldn't wait to meet them.

Beau put his arms around me. "A year from now, we're going to be holding the cutest baby in the world. Probably taking our first family holiday pictures in color-coordinated outfits. It's all going to be amazing."

Oh, that thought was heartwarming. I wondered if I would be picking out little tuxedos or dresses.

"We will." I patted his hands.

I sat down on the edge of the hotel bed. "If the baby is born in June, what are you going to do? It's right in the middle of your season."

The MLB was the only pro sport to have paternity leave as an option.

The gag was that it was only three days.

"Try to break my ankle or tear my rotator cuff again." Beau sighed.

I let out a small laugh because I thought he was joking. He was dead serious by the look on his face.

"Are you for real?" I questioned him.

He sat down next to me. "It's such a weird position to be in. I am so lucky to be making so much money to say that I only work six months out of the year. But June to the end of October is such a long stretch. Four whole months that I'll only have the opportunity to be home for a few days."

Beau rested his head on my shoulder. "The league has always been my dream, but it's situations like this that I wished things were different. I just have to make it four more years so I can secure a retirement pension for us."

"I can't afford to miss another season though. I'm getting older and I don't want to be replaced." I stroked his cheek as he spoke.

"Do you plan on retiring right after your tenth season?" I asked him.

He would be 32.

That was crazy.

Beau nodded his head. "I'm getting tired of living like this. Maybe after all of this, I'll do something practical like coach a high school baseball team then maybe move up to a D1 college one day."

"I just want to be there for every moment." he went on.

I sympathized with him.

That was a sticky position to be in.

"Maybe after this one, I'll go back on birth control and we'll hold off on trying for number two until everything calms down." I suggested.

He nodded his head. "Yeah. I'll get my vasectomy after number three like we always agreed."
