Football season was the best season.
I loved getting the chance to perform for my school, the cute uniforms, and just the atmosphere on game days.
Before dancing at the game, we spent a lot of time selling programs that supported the spirit team and UCLA athletics. It was pretty boring, you just sat at a booth for two hours or so.
"What are these?" a voice asked me.
I looked up to see Beau wearing a UCLA t-shirt, jeans, and dunks.
"Would you like to support the UCLA spirit teams and alethic department?" I asked him like he was a real customer.
He squinted his eyes at me. "Mhm, not right now. Maybe after I graduate."
"Are you going to the bars after the game?" I asked Beau.
"Nah," he responded as he flipped through the book. "I have conditioning and practice in the morning. You know that I don't drink or smoke when I have practice the next day."
I smiled. "I do know that."
"What classes are you taking this semester?" Beau questioned me.
"Government, philosophy, modern biology, cellular neuroscience, and a communications class." I responded.
He looked up at me. "If you need help, you know I'm always available. Are you coming to our frat's beach party next weekend? It's gonna be fun."
I shook my head. "I'll be in San Francisco. My dad is campaigning out there and I figured that I'd help him."
Beau gave me a small smile. "Aren't you a sweetheart?"
"I try." I flipped my hair.
"Actually, I have a biology test on Thursday. Can you help me with a study guide?" I asked Beau.
He nodded his head. "Just send over the topics, and I can help you."
"Cool." I responded. "Thank you."
"Anything for you, Nat. I'll see you later, ok?" Beau said to me.
He really just said that he would do anything for me. I couldn't believe it, but I knew that he meant it in a friendly way.
At least, that's what I was telling myself.
"Bye, B." I waved as he walked away.
The rest of my night was spent dancing on the sidelines, dancing on the field, and going bar hopping with my friends.
Don't get me wrong, it was nice to have a boyfriend, but your girlfriends just offered you something that a man couldn't.
It was fun to dance around, take shots, and laugh with your friends. College was all about finding your bridesmaids, not necessarily your groom.
"What's wrong with you?" Mer asked me as I stared off into space.
I shook my head. "It's nothing. I'm just drunk and this is where I met Beau. I haven't been to this bar since that night. All of those memories just came flowing back."
Mer rubbed my back. "Girl, I know breakups are tough, but you're tougher. And your new boyfriend is pretty good-looking too."
Dammit, Natalia.
Why was I so upset over him when I had Drew? All of this time I was over Beau until he walked into that elevator.
"You're right." I got up from my stool. "Let's go dance."
We stayed out until four in the morning before we all went back to our apartments. I don't know how I got in the shower, took my makeup off, and made it into the bed. I made it work though.
