Will P.O.V

Today I'm interviewing some people to hire for the diner.

A boy walks, doesn't look older than 16 neatly dressed, and walks up to me.

"Good morning I was wondering if I could get a job here, I saw the help wanted poster outside", he asks.

"Yeah, sure I can do the interview right now if you're free" I reply.

"That'd be perfect", he says with a smile as he sits down at one of the tables.

I sit across from him and begin the interview. I ask basic interview questions and a few personal questions.

His name is Alejandro and he's new in town. He's 17 years old and lives with his single mother with 2 siblings. He says he needs this job to help his mom with the bills.

All around he seems like a nice guy, I think I'm going to hire him. Not like I have much of a choice, there aren't too many applicants to choose from.

"So I will call you in a few days and let you know if you get the job", I say shaking his hand.

"Alright thank you" he replies with a smile and he leaves.

For the rest of the day, things are normal. I expected to interview some more people but almost all of the people who scheduled an interview didn't show up.

I didn't think Athena would come by today since it's Saturday but to my surprise around noon, she walked into the diner and came up to me.

"So I thought about it and I would like to work here," she says confidently.

I froze for a moment staring at her trying to comprehend what she just said.

I snap out of it and clear my throat before I begin, "Um yes the job is yours just tell me when you can start".

Athena smiled and my heart skipped a beat. Her smile is so beautiful. And then I saw her face flash with confusion.

"Wait, don't you need to interview me", she questioned.

"OH yes I forgot", I say scratching my head embarrassed.

I pull up a chair for her and she sits across from me.

"So Athena, why do you want to work here?" I ask.

She takes a deep breath before answering.

"I want to get out of the house more and become for financially independent" she replies.

"Tell me about yourself," I ask.

Until this point, she's seemed calm but now she started to get nervous.

"Uhhhh I'm not all that interesting, to be honest", she replies shyly.

"It's ok anything about yourself will due",  I reply.

"Ok then, my name is Athena Adeyemi and I'm 18 years old and I'm a senior in high school. I like reading and writing. My favorite color is green and I'm Nigerian", she rambles out.

I let out a little laugh which seemed to put her on edge even more.

We talk for a little longer.

"This goes without saying but you got the job", I say with a smile.

"Thank you", Athena says with a wide grin.

"When can you start", I ask.

"As soon as possible", Athena replied.

I look around at the busy diner for a moment. And I got an idea.

"How about now", I reply.

"R-Really, now?", she asks surprised.
