Not alone anymore

Athena P.O.V

*After work*

Will just dropped me off from work. I can't help but feel giddy. He opened the door for me and everything. Even though he was just being nice, I couldn't help but get butterflies. 

I completely forgot to think of the possibility that my parents were home.
Because when I walk in I see my step-dad. And my mom sitting on the couch watching TV.

I hate him.

"Who was that person that dropped you off", he asks with a look weird look on his face.

"One of my co-workers dropped me off he-", before I could even finish my sentence my stepdad interrupted me.

"He? So I see that your new job is being a whore.", he says with a smirk.

"N-no I work at the diner", I say flustered.

"No don't you dare lie to me, you're letting some dude rail you for money", he yells getting angry.

Tears start to pool in my eyes, "N-n-no I'm not", I reply.

"YOU DUMB WHORE, DON'T LIE TO ME", he yells grabbing a fist full of my hair.

I thought  I was done for. And then my mother stepped in.

"Hey, what did I tell you about putting your hands on my daughter", my mother says menacingly.

My stepdad lets me go reluctantly and I immediately run upstairs to my room ignoring the pain in my foot and lock the door.

I don't know what I would've done if my mom wasn't there. Not saying that my mom is a good person for not letting her husband hit me. Seeing as she beats me, I know from past experiences where my mom wasn't there, beatings from my stepdad were far worse. He doesn't know when to stop. Last time I ended up in the hospital. Because of that, my mom doesn't let him hit me anymore.

She loved me enough to make him stop beating me but not enough to leave him. Honestly, I don't think it's because she cares, she probably doesn't want to pay for my medical bills if he hurts me again.

My head hurts from having my hair violently pulled. I just sit in my bed staring at my wall.

And my phone dings and it's a text from Will.

Will: Goodnight 

I look down at my phone and smile. At least I know someone cares about me.

I reply.

Athena: Goodnight 

I lay my head on the bed and close my eyes and wait for sleep to come and I fall asleep fast, after working all day I'm really tired.

*Next day*

Athena P.O.V

I'm running late for school. I wasn't sure what to wear so I wore the hoodie Will gave to me and some leggings.

Since I woke up late my parents already went to work. Today I don't go to the diner for breakfast because there's no time.

I run to school. If I'm late again my mom will have my head on a plate.

I make it just in time for 1st period. My teacher was about to start the lecture before a knock came at the door.

And to my surprise it's Alejandro. I forgot that he was my age and he just moved here so of course he would be in my school.

"Oh, you must be the new student. Welcome", the teacher says with a smile.

Alejandro just nods awkwardly and walks to the empty desk in the back of the classroom. All the girls just stare at him practically drooling. He finds me and flashes me a quick smile before sitting down and I smile back waving. This earns looks from the girls in the class, but honestly today I don't have the energy for that.

I sit quietly throughout the whole class occasionally glancing at Alejandro. It's still weird seeing him here at school.

The bell rings and I gather up my things and walk out of the classroom I see Alejandro standing at the door waiting for me.

"Hey uh can I walk with you, I don't know anyone", he asks shyly.

"Yeah of course", I reply with a smile.

We walk down the hall together talking and I realize that people are staring at us. Probably because they had never seen me with a friend.

Alejandro even walks me to my class before going to his.

*Time skip lunch*

After 3rd period is lunch and I usually don't eat lunch in the cafeteria unless my teacher isn't at school today.

And unfortunately, my favorite teacher isn't here so I have to stay in the cafeteria. I sit down put my earphones in and lay my head down. Then someone taps me on my shoulder and I turn and see that it's Felicity. I take my earphones out and smile at her.

"Hey girl, I didn't know you ate here", she said smiling widely.

"Um yeah I'm eating here today", I reply.

She sits down next to me.

"I heard people talking that you were seen walking with the new boy", she says raising her eyebrows up and down smiling mischievously.

I laugh at the face she's making, "he's my friend from work", I say smiling.

She was about to say something else and speak of the devil, Alejandro came up to our table with a tray of food.

"Hey Athena, mind if I sit here", he asks.

"Yeah go ahead", I reply.

Felicity's eyes are open like saucers staring at Alejandro.

She leans and whispers into my ear," You never mentioned that your friend was so hot", she says as her accent comes out even more.

I quietly snicker at her comment and she smacks my arm hushing me, which just made me laugh harder.

I look up at Alejandro who is now smirking at the scene before him. He is amused.

Felicity clears her throat before introducing herself.

"Hi my name is Felicity, nice to meet you", she says with her hand out flashing a smile.

"Alejandro, nice to meet you too", Alejandro replies shaking her hand.

I wave my hand over Felicity's eyes which seemed to have glazed over. I clap loudly trying to get her attention. Alejandro chuckles at the sight. 

The rest of lunch we spent talking and laughing together. This feels weird, is this what normal people feel like with their friends?
