Pairing: Mirabel Madrigal x g/n! reader

Warnings: none that I can think of, just cute Mirabel and Camilo being a slightly annoying cousin

'Knock, knock,' your knuckles banged against the hard front door.

The door creaked open, revealing the shape shifting Madrigal child.

A huge grin appeared in his face when he saw you, as well as a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"Oh, hey Y/N!" He called, way too loud to greet someone who was standing right in front of you.

Before you could question it, an angered scream sounded from upstairs in the Casita.

"Camilo!" you heard the familiar shout from Mirabel.

"MiRaBeL!" Camilo called in a mocking voice.

You let out an awkward chuckle as you gripped the woven picnic basket handle tighter behind your back.

Before Camilo could make another comment, he disappeared from sight, getting pulled away from the door.

You started at the empty doorway in shock as many yells and 'oofts' came from inside the Casita.

"Y/N!" Mirabel greeted cheerfully, her voice drowned out by her heavy breathing.

"Uh, hey!" you responded, trying to ignore what probably just happened.

She ran a hand through her hair, before walking through the door to come closer to you.

"Sorry about them," she huffed, gesturing to inside the Casita where Camilo was on the floor, dying of laughter.

"You should've seen your face!" He wheezed, before the sound of the door shutting cut him off.

You laughed a little, before turning back to Mirabel, "Well, you ready to go?"

She nodded excitedly, "You got the thing?"

You grinned, pulling out the picnic basket behind your back, "You know, you don't have to just call it 'the thing'?"

"Please! If Dolores hears that I'm going on a date with you that involves a... you know what, she'd go crazy! And she's definitely tell everyone, and I mean, everyone."

You just let another laugh, before taking Mirabel's hand, "Come on, you dork, we can't spend the whole day worrying about your cousin."

With a pleased sigh, you and Mirabel began your walk.

Obviously, you two took the long way, going all the way around the town instead of through it.

It could've been because you wanted to take the more scenic route, or that you just wanted to spend more time with each other.

Let's be real, of course it was the second option.

You two told stories, made jokes and flirted the whole walk there.

A pang of disappointment hit you when you arrived, realizing it was the end of one of the best walks you had ever been on, but that quickly dissolved when you started setting up the long awaited picnic.

You set down the basket and flung open the lid.

Mirabel smiled, before grabbing the red and white picnic blanket, and setting it down on the grass.

Before you even realized it, Mirabel grabbed your hands, and held you in her chest, before lying down on the blanket.

"Mirabel!" You groaned, it was muffled as your voice was cut of by Mirabel's dress in your face, but you knew she heard you.

"What?" she asked, dragging on the word, "So I'm not allowed to hug my partner on our picnic that we've been waiting to go on for weeks?"

She loosened her arms long enough for you to break free from her grip, "Not if they can't breathe!" you gasped, your breaths heavy for dramatic effect.

"Whatever," she mumbled, lying back down on the picnic blanket.

You smirked at your girlfriend, before lying down next to her.

"Hey," you whispered.

Mirabel shuffled to turn around to face you, "Hey."

You placed an arm on her shoulder, before pulling her into a hug, "I love you," you whispered, placing a kiss on her forehead.

She looked up to face your eyes as she smiled, "I love you too, amor."

The two of you lay like that for hours, watching the clouds in the sky, trying to find shapes in them, and just enjoying each other's presence.

You began playing with her hair as she moved to sit in your lap, when you whispered, "It's getting dark, you know?"

"Yeah," she replied, getting lost in your voice.

When she wouldn't move, you tried a different approach, "Someone's gonna get in trouble." You sang, and got a loud sigh in response.

"Your foot's tingling and you need me to get off, right?"

"No!" you gasped dramatically.

"Yeah, yeah, sure..." she said, sitting up to face you, "I probably should be getting home soon. Dolores is a tattle tale, you know?"

You couldn't help but laugh at her and how adorable she was, "I can guess."

With another sigh, she stood up from the blanket, and held out of her hand, "Come on, mi vida, I know I'm not the only one with a curfew."

"I'm mi vida now?" You asked, ignoring the swarm of butterflies in your stomach as you stood up beside her.

"You've always been mi vida."

——-

The walk back home was the same as usual, the two of you just talking about life and, other stuff (very specific).

More disappointment bubbles in your stomach when you reached the door to Casita.

Mirabel faced you with a smile, "This was fun."

"Yeah-" you went to respond, when Mirabel caught you off guard with another hug.

"I love you, Y/N," she whispered, her head snuggling in the crook of your neck.

You didn't hesitate to hug her back, "I love you too, Mira,"

Eyes filled with sorrow, she walked toward the front door, "I'll see you later, mi vida,"

You smiled at her, "Yeah... mi vida."

The door quietly shut behind her, leaving you to walk back home alone.

With a dreamy sigh, Mirabel fell back against the door, her thoughts corrupted with memories of you.

"Mi vida, huh?"

Mirabel jumped around to see all her cousins and siblings standing in front of her, the same teasing smirk on all of their faces.

"Oh no."
