Chapter 7

Cameron

This can only end badly, a mermaid spending a night at some human's house? It's unheard of and extremely dangerous
"What's with the grumpy face?" Laney asked.
"I'm not grumpy," I protested. Laney looked at me doubtfully with her eyebrows raised, "I'm a little grumpy," I admitted but she kept looking at me.
"FINE! I'm very grumpy," I shouted and she giggled.
"Thank you for being honest with me," She says after she kissed me and I grumbled.
"Welcome," I muttered.
"Cameron, Megan will be fine," Laney says reassuringly.
"She's sleeping over at a human's!" I argued, my voice now louder.
"Cameron, you were the same when we were younger. You snuck out, Megan at least told you she was sleeping over. You never even did that," Laney says as she rubbed my back.
"You're right,"
"I know," Laney recited and I nodded.
"You're so smart," I giggle and we kissed again and as we kissed I heard Laney's stomach rumble.
"Oops," She says awkwardly and I laughed.

Jaime

I slowly opened my eyes and sighed as I untangled myself from Megan. She had wrapped her right leg around my left leg, her arms wrapped around my waist and her head tilted so it rested on my left shoulder. I heard her mumble as I sat up and rested my head against the headboard.
Last night was so fun, but it got a bit heated. And not in the angry/ shouting kinda way.
"Good morning," Megan slurs as she sits up.
"Morning," I chuckle, when Megan lays her head on my right shoulder, I slide my arm around her shoulder, "How was your first sleepover?" I asked as the memories from last night played out in my mind.
"fun," She mumbled.
"You still tired?" I asked even though the answer was painfully apparent, and she nodded silently, "We should probably get you home," I say, thinking out loud. I felt Megan shake her head no.
"Why?"
"I don't wanna go home just yet,"
"Then how bout I make us some breakfast?" I asked.
"Mmmmmhhhhmmmm," She agreed and sat up and climbed out of bed and headed to the kitchen to make my new girlfriend some pancakes. I hummed happily as I moved the batter around the frying pan. Megan walked in and sat down, just as she did there was a loud knock on the door.
"I got it," Megan says as she got back up. The aggressive knocking continued for about another 5 seconds until Megan opened the door.
"Oh, my gooood!" Megan gasped and I ran to see if she was ok.
"Megan?!" I asked frantically but when I saw what she was looking at I sighed.
"Hey!" Laney greeted us in her usual happy voice. Cameron was glaring me down and Megan was glaring at Cameron. I said nothing as I return to the kitchen.
"why are you here?" Cameron hissed.
"I was sleeping over. I do believe I told you," Megan says in an agitated tone.
"Ooohh pancakes!" Laney exclaimed enthusiastically.
"Um yeah..," I awkwardly agree. But the way I said it made me sound super uncomfortable. Which I was, this same girl had wanted to eat me! And now I was in the same room as her while Megan and Cameron argued.
"Can I ask you something?" Laney says in a surprisingly serious voice.
"Um, suuuure...,"
"Why is it that you like Megan?" Laney says as she slung her arm around my shoulder and we watched the sisters argue.
"I honestly don't know the reason. It just feels right," I reply.
"Oh my gosh! You really are in love with her!" Laney gasped.
"How can you tell?" I demand.
"Most People that are truly in love don't know why. Do you know why that is?" Laney replies.
"No,"
"It's because people shouldn't need a reason to love one another. That and love conquers anything," Just as she spoke those words, there was a loud bang and men came spilling into the room and grabbed all of us. They shoved masks over our head and inject me and I assume the others as well with some kind of drug, then everything went black.

I awoke in a cold sweat and found myself chained to a metal chair. Three armed men with masks on blocked the door,then another man walked in and took a seat in front of me.
"Nice to meet you, Jaime, I'm general Kraken," The man says with a crooked smile. The other men gasped whenthey heard my name and began whispering. I keep my best poker face on butI feel so scared. I'm terrified.
"What'd you want?" I asked coldly, trying to sound strong.
"Straight to the point, I like that. Well, it's quite simple really," He chuckled then nodded to a man who seta huge bowl of water in front of me, "Here's what's going to happen, you're going to make that water freeze then evaporate, or I'm going to kill your girlfriend," Kraken says, then a man held a knife to Megan's throat.
"What makes you think Ican?!" I demand.
"Mermaids can only control water while they are in the water, same for Sirens. However, a child that is half mermaid and half Siren is powerful enough to control water while out of water......a child like you. Now, you have until the countof three,"
I can't do it, but if I don't he'll kill Megan! If I reveal what I am now, it could mean victory for the Sirens, especially considering they have the perfect leverage now.
"One,"
I can't.
"Two,"
I won't.
"Three," Just as his blade began to move the water froze and the bucket exploded then the water evaporated.
"What now?" I ask quietly andashamed.
"Now, you are going to come with me to meet the royal family of the Sirens,"
Kraken says.
"I will, once you let my friends go,"
Little does he know, being a hybrid also lets me control the water in the air. Meaning, their chains can't hold meif I don't want them to. I had slowly been freezing them and when I usedmy powers on the water in the bucket, it froze my chains completely.
"You're not really in a position to negotiate," He chuckled.
"Neither are you," I reply harshly, "You almost kill my girlfriend and make me expose myself. That's two fatal mistakes that you managed to make in one day!" I shout and smash my chains against the chair and they shattered. I walked towards the now terrified General.
"You can't kill me! I'm the siren prince!" He shouted frantically.
"And I'm a pissed off hybrid," I reply calmly with a sinister smile.
The guards aimed their weapons at me but I had secretly frozen the bullets in the chambers before I broke my chains. Kraken had backed up into a corner and I got right up in his terrified face.
"You wanted to know what I'm capable of, I'll show you," I hissed.
I grabbed his throat and froze his blood solid and then made it all evaporate.The guards ran at me but I froze their legs. Dropping Kraken's dried out corpse onto the floor and walked towards the now trembling soldiers.
"I know you were just following orders, but...," I froze their blood too and their bodies blew up from thefrozen blood that had expanded in their veins, "you're just as guilty...," I muttered. I then freed my girlfriend and the rest of her family.
"I'm sorry," I mutter to Meganand she hugged me tightly without a word. Cameron and Laney nodded their thanks and acceptance. Acceptance of my friendship and Cameron's acceptance of me and Megan being together.
"You have nothing to be sorry for," Megan whispered against my lips before she kissed me.
