We'd been driving for about an hour and a half, the signal bee picked up stopped a while ago but luckily we managed to figure out a rough area of where he could be.
The anticipation was killing you. You'd only known the Autobots for a few months but it had felt like a lifetime, you knew how big of a deal this was and you were honoured you could share it with them.
Not much conversation had been shared throughout the group, the odd confirmation that we were going in the right direction here and there.
"So, what's he like" you break the silence, the thought had been stuck in your mind for the whole drive. You'd never met him and the way the guys talk about him, he almost seems like some kind of God.
You were kind of nervous. What if he didn't want you around his Autobots, humans were the reason they had to go into hiding in the first place, it'd make sense he'd hate them, including you. Sure drift would probably vouch for you but in the end, he'd more than likely want to stay with Optimus. Besides, would you want to be the reason drift separated from the group? Before you could spiral anymore, drift answered your original question.
"He is an honourable man, loyal to his friends, I would lay down my life for him as I'm sure he would do the same" he spoke, you could tell by his tone he meant every word of it.
You sunk into the chair a little bit, more questions piling up in your brain, a worried expression plastered onto your face. "You seem concerned, is there a reason?" Drift questioned, worried about your sudden silence.
"I guess...I don't know, it's stupid really" you mumble, casting your gaze out the window. You were met with silence indicating he wanted you to continue. You let out a sigh knowing he wasn't going to let it go.
"It's just, what if he doesn't want me to stay, I mean it'd make sense after what you've all been through, and besides he's your leader, and by the sounds of it basically whatever he says is the law" you voice your thoughts, hoping you didn't offend him with the last statement.
"It is true he is our leader and we will follow him until the end" Drift started, not exactly helping the sinking feeling in your stomach. "However, he is not an unreasonable man, he will see how you have helped us and he will be grateful, and if he is not, then I will have no choice but to disobey his orders and leave with you" he finished, a small smile etched its way onto your face however you still had a little doubt about everything.
Sensing this, drift decided to share with you something he'd much rather soon forget. "I wasn't always fighting alongside Optimus and the Autobots" he began, drawing in your attention. "At the start of the war, I fought with Megatron" he spoke, shame lacing his words. You were speechless, the way he speaks about Optimus, you'd assume they'd been friends since the beginning of time. You didn't know what to respond with so he continued.
"I fought with him for a while before I realised what we were doing was wrong and I was fighting on the wrong side of the war, and so I changed teams, it wasn't easy at first, nobody trusted me. However Optimus always stood by my side and welcomed me to his group and I have been grateful ever since" he finished, remembering his past, a mix of sadness and pride in his voice.
"What I'm trying to say is, if Optimus can forgive me for my mistakes in the past, he will not hold you responsible for other humans' mistakes, that is not who he is"
You never expected drift to tell you any of this. It seems like something he'd want to bury and never bring up again so the fact that he just told you to make you feel better proves how much he trusts you. So how could you not trust him? You smiled at the dashboard, your nervousness melting away.
