Chapter Forty-Three - I Know I'm The Only One

Even if you're comin' home at three

You're comin' home to me

Miss me with that jealousy

'Cause I ain't with that shit, babe

Trust

I ain't trippin' when you do too much

'Cause I know they gon' look but they can't touch

And nothing but these sheets come between us

'Cause I know I'm the only one

-PRETTYMUCH, "Trust,"

"I hope you know I'm not ok with this," I sigh crossing my arms,

"I didn't expect you to be," he answers as he moves around me reaching into the shower turning the faucet on,

"Then why are you doing this?" I ask finally letting the frustration I'd been feeling for the past couple of hours as I listened to F.P's plans for Mike's "training" take me over,

"Because I have no choice," he sighs rather calmly though I can sense the frustration creeping upon him as well,

"What does that even mean?" I ask,

"Don't worry about it," he shook his head dismally as he pulls his shirt off preparing to get into the shower,

"Are you serious? You want me to completely dismiss the fact that you're about to become the leader of a fucking biker gang in the middle of a supposed war," I spit out angrily,

"Yes," he nods nonchalantly as he fumbles with his belt,

"You're such a fucking idiot you know that?" I practically yell,

"Ok let me be a fucking idiot then," he shrugs, I shut my eyes tightly feeling the temperature of my blood rising at how he's being so casual about something so dangerous,

"Why are you being like this?" I ask,

"Because being like this keeps you and the girls safe, and you know I'd do anything to keep all of you safe," he sighs,

"Safe from what? Reggie? Aside from throwing a mediocre punch, what can he do?" I ask,

"It's not him it's his father," he says,

"What about his dad?" I ask my eyebrows laced in bewilderment,

"It's better if you don't know," he says,

"Why?"

"Because not knowing keeps you safe," he says through gritted teeth I can tell I'm testing his patience but at this moment I don't particularly care,

"What about you huh? What's supposed to keep you safe?"

"That doesn't matter," he replies

"Bullshit, Michael. W--what happens if you get hurt? Huh? Then you'd leave that little girl alone,"

"She has Toni she'd be fine," he replies,

"What about me? Are you going to leave me?" I asked attempting to hide the tears I feel pooling in my eyes, he sighs emitting a soft laugh he takes a few steps towards me taking my tear-stained, face in his calloused hands, he strokes my cheeks softly,
