to do the impossible - walt disney

"Hey, Ky...?" Harp sing-songs as I change in my closet and I laugh to myself.

"Yes, you can borrow some clothes," I say, walking out and going across the room to my bathroom. She just scoffs.

"Why do you assume that's what I was going to ask? I could've been asking if I could borrow... toothpaste," she states, still laying in bed.

"Oh, so do you wanna borrow some toothpaste?" I ask, brushing my own teeth.

"Ew. No. I hate your toothpaste," she replies and I chuckle with a roll of my eyes before going back into my bathroom.

After we finish getting ready, we head downstairs, and I see the time.

"I don't have time for a sit-down meal," I say, grabbing my house keys off the hook and walking out of the house.

"But-but. I dreamed about Wes's french toast," she whines and I roll my eyes.

"It'll have to wait," I respond, starting down our road. "We'll go tomorrow or something. Let's just stop by PJ's and get some coffee. Maybe a muffin." I speed up my pace a tiny bit, not wanting to be late. PJ's was a minute detour, and then the wait in line. Guess it's a good thing I know people that work there Tuesday mornings.

"Hey. Do you think you could make me and Harper's regulars and grab two blueberry muffins to go?" I wonder, holding my phone up to my ear and waiting for a response.

"Yeah. I'm not supposed to, but sure," Alivia responds and I squeal, giving Harp a thumbs up, making her clap tiredly. She really needs the coffee.

"I love you," I sing and she just laughs and hangs up, making me pout. "She didn't say it back," I cry to Harper and she copies my pout, throwing an arm over my shoudler.

"I'll say it back to you," she promises and I smile.

"I love you," I tell her, and her mouth opens before she's interrupted by her phone ringing. "Ouch," I say, holding a hand to my heart as she answers her phone.

"Hey, what's up?" she says, and I can tell by the way she's trying to keep her voice steady, it's Nick. "Oh, yeah. For sure. No problem, Nick. See you later," she farewells, hanging up and smiling like a goof when she does.

"Why did he call?" I ask as we walk into PJ's seeing our coffee already sitting out next to a bag of muffins. "Thanks, Alivia!" I call, placing down a few bills as I hear a grunt from under the counter, laughing to myself as we leave, Harper taking greedy sips of her coffee.

"Um, he just wanted help with something," she states with a shrug and I smile at her.

"You're gonna help him study?" I ask and she just rolls her eyes. "Into the third week of school, and he already needs help?" I wonder, making her sigh wistfully. It makes me sad for a moment, knowing I wouldn't be able to tell her about this stuff. I can't tell her about how he confessed something to me that was so deep and so personal. How much it meant to me.

"We both wanted to talk about journalism since we're both in that class, so it just seemed appropriate," she replies and I laugh at the cuteness.

"You two are gonna bond over your dorky writings. That is  sweet," I say, making her kick me and I laugh. "I'm kidding, dude. This is good," I admit. She just rolls her eyes but smiles at me when I wink at her.

We walk to the school, weaving through the cars and people before making it to the front building, going our separate ways.
