Dabi was exhausted. He was in pain.
He was shaking.
The young adult was running on pure adrenaline as he hobbled through the forest. No one saw him enter, he made sure of it by briefly glancing over his surroundings before he stepped in.
He had done it.
He killed Endeavor.
He killed Touya's father.
He killed Dabi's enemy.
But he didn't feel like he could smile at his win. Afterall, it didn't feel like a win. Within the last few weeks, Dabi had begun rethinking his decision of running away. He didn't want to be a villain per say. He wanted to get away from a villain.
He was forced to become a hero.
But did he really want to become a hero? The lines were smudged. He liked helping people at times--he helped Toga and a few other runaways while he was on the streets. But he didn't see himself becoming a famous hero that surpassed All Might.
Dabi felt sick, his foot was throbbing and his hands were mutilated.
Looking at them, the skin was all clumped and blistered. Blood pooled in every crevice of his hand and trailed down his fingertips.
He stumbled closer to the nearest tree and leaned on it. He could hear his heart practically beating out of his chest--the birds could probably hear it.
But the forest was eerie and silent.
As if their was a veil that made the area dim and muted, the only exception were the leaves.
Dabi sighed, looking at the grass and flowers in front of him.
If he knew he could make it back to the League, he would have. But he knew he would have to cross all the Hero patrol routes. Not to mention the crime scene where he just killed the Number Two Pro-Hero.
Logically, he knew he couldn't make it.
Touya was a master in battle strategy, Touya was a star student.
Dabi knew a thing or two about chances as well.
He wasn't about to take more than he was blessed with.
The sunset, is beautiful tonight...
Dabi felt small shivers go down his spine.
Feeling a droplet of water fall on his face, he raised a stinging hand and wiped his face.
Blood?
He analyzed the red stripe on his hand. Definitely blood.
But was he imagining it?
Another droplet landed on his face, and he once again found it was blood.
He wiped his face once more before slowly turning his head towards the tree looming above him.
Now, he didn't pay much attention in biology class, but he was pretty sure that threes don't bleed.
There was red dripping from the trees, along with a silver strip. Dabi looked closer to the tree and was able to make out a green and silver suit with a red belt and limbs.
He reached his hands up, grabbing at the fabric on the branches.
Curiosity was a curse.
He hissed as he pulled the fabric using his weight. His muscles were so close to giving out, the remaining adrenaline dissipating fast. His legs were shaking and he could feel his ribs tightening.
With a last tug, Dabi ripped the object from the tree.
However he forgot to take gravity into account.
The body promptly fell ontop of the villain, making him gasp. He fell on the forest floor and ended up hitting his head on a rock. He groaned as his headache worsened. Now he could hear his heartbeat jumping around his body, pulsing like no tomorrow.
He also felt something snap in his ribcage, which was definitely not a good sign.
But there was no way he could get that fixed. He was in the middle of a forest, and even if he was found in time, he was a villain. Villain's aren't treated the same way, they're killers.
And Dabi just so happened to recently kill Pro-Hero Endeavor, so that was minus points.
Dabi rolled the body off his figure and caught his breath.
Once collected, he sat up and shifted against the bottom of the tree stump. He didn't have enough energy to maintain his muscles sitting up. He needed a little help as his fatigue grew.
He slowly pulled the body over. As though, the small figure was in a green and silver suit with a red belt looking thing. The suit was tattered and there were gaping holes in the shoulder areas.
When Dabi leaned in closer, he saw that it wasn't just the clothes that were tattered but the kid was mutilated almost beyond recognition.
There were six gaping holes going through the body's shoulders. Three on each side. Not to mention some branches had impaled the body.
The limbs were purple and lumpy. Dabi gagged at the sight and nearly threw up then and there when he saw bones sticking out from the muscle, skin, and hero suit.
Slowly, Dabi gained the courage to flip over the body to see the face.
I don't want to die alone.
He gasped.
Usually he was unable to decipher emotions and show empathy, however this was the USJ kid.
The kid who went missing around the time Shigaraki lost the special nomu.
The kid from Shoto's class.
He was Shoto's age.
I'm sorry.
And his eyes were open, the cornea clouded over.
The kid is dead. The kid is dead....
And he has been dead for a long time...
Dabi didn't know how to react. This was an innocent kid, and no kid deserved to die. Not a hero, villain, or civilian.
But this kid, barely scraping the age of sixteen, is dead.
Dabi doesn't necessarily know how to feel with this revelation.
The sight of the teen was sickening.
But Dabi knew that if it was Shoto, he would feel horrible.
Dabi moved the kid closer to him, resting the teen's head on his lap. He put his hand in the kid's hair and rubbed the matted and bloody locks.
The kid didn't deserve to die.
Izuku Midoriya didn't deserve to die.
Dabi could feel a trickling run down his neck, his head was throbbing. He could feel the skin on his hands rip off and he could feel his ankle and ribs throb, searing hot pain enveloping his body.
He could feel his eyesight dimming, so her relaxed against the tree and looked up.
Through the canopy leaves, he could see a sliver of the sky. The orange was fading to purple.
I don't want to die alone.
"It's okay...kiddo," Dabi mumbled, rubbing the teens hair one more time. "Just look at...the sun...set."
Dabi looked up at the sun until his vision faded out and his body slowly went limp.
Together the two laid at the foot of the tree. They stayed through the night, and eventually the stars took over the sky.
