Like the seasons, people's hearts are forever changing, sometimes to our favor and sometimes not. It's one thing that we can never predict nor foresee.

She had to witness it, the changing hearts of the people she loved. The love that changed into something she can never comprehend, the dislike that became her most favorable. It's all a part of human nature, but she hoped it wouldn't for a minute there. She hoped she would still be loved by those who chose to leave. But wishful thinking is nothing but a wakeful dream.

A friend , who were more like a family. The one with whom she shared her hopes and dreams, her fears and sorrows. The one she hoped would be standing next to her at this very moment, holding her hand as she cried over the love that got away, but they were, the ones that got away.

It pains her, the memories they had, the smell of the places they once enjoyed, and the little things she has of them. It's like every photo speaks of them, every memory of where they once lived holds a story of how they were, and it was making it harder for her heart to let go. It made it harder to believe that they were able to let go.

She remembers her wishful thinking, her future dreams of them standing smiling at her wedding day, welcoming her first child, watching him go to college, happily smiling knowing how all her dreams came true. But changing hearts made it all go away.

But she grew older, and saw how life changes you. How no matter how hard you try to love someone, how hard you cling to someone, or something, there is always a chance you will end up losing it. Because that's one of the constants in life, Our changing hearts.

No matter how much it pains her to admit, they just fell out of love, out of that bubble of theirs and into someone else's, someone who provided them more comfort and stability, someone less whiny, someone more thoughtful, but she still hoped it could have been her.

Because in her memories, she was, and in her heart she is. She is the person they cry to when life gets hard, in her heart they still come back to her when life fails them. Because in her heart, their heart is still hers.

But these changing hearts still brought a new heart to her. It brought more than it took.  A beautiful soul she can never replace, a person to hold her when life gets hard, a person who she turns to when life fails her. Those changing hearts brought her a new love, that might be here to hold her hand on her wedding day, to be there when she welcomes her first child, and to smile at her knowing all her dreams did come true.

It may not be the one she once hoped it would be, but she knows that her changing heart chose it to be. It knows that her changing heart is letting go of the past holding the door open to something better, never forgetting what once where you and me.
