After your reading session, steven had decided to take you and Connie out for a pleasant outing on the beach.

While Steven and Connie took their spots up on the comfortably warm sand, you played near the cool waters, rolling around in the ocean lapped sand, occasionally burying your feet in the cool sand, or simply letting the tide roll over your toes. Occasionally, You'd wade deeper into the water, and dunk your head into the cool water, and splash in the low tide.

It's been quite a while since you've felt the coolness of the ocean wash over your body. You couldn't help but purr contently, almost unaware of the anxious eyes watching from a far.
~~~~~~~~~~~
"I really don't like how far they're wandering into the ocean..." Steven mutters, knitting his brow slightly in worry as you wandered further into the rolling waves, unfurling your wings so the water would wash over them as well.
Beside him, Connie took her gaze off you to give him a look. "What? You're not worried they're gonna drown, are you?" She Joked, taking a sip from her juice box.
Steven shrugged, wearing more of a sneer than a smile. "You'd be surprised at what can happen in a few minutes. I should know. I grew up as a crystal gem." He tried to sound light and joking, but there was a barely noticeable dryness in his tone.
Thankfully, Connie didn't seem to notice it, as she giggled lightly. "Fair enough."
A peaceful period of silence came over them both, as they returned to watching you prance along the shoreline, smiling at the look of bliss on your face as you rolled around in the wet sand again.
"You know, I've been reading a lot more on sirens. There's actually a lot more to them than just singing." Connie spoke up again, stifling a giggle as she watched you dig in the sand, in a manner similar to that of a dog's. "Like the fact the other two types of sirens actually exist."
"Really?" Steven didn't take his eyes off you, but was still listening, but now much more closely.
"Yeah, like there's the avian class, and the aqua class." Connie explained. She couldn't restrict the giggle that came up as she saw you squawk in surprise at the crab that suddenly scuttled by you. "Avian is the one with the bird bodies and the aqua is the ones with the fish tails."
"Oh, that's cool." He commented, as he watched you try to catch the crab that was now waving its pincers and snapping at you defensively as it increased its scuttling speed. "Did you find anything on (name)'s class?"
Connie's smile faltered slightly. "That's... the wierd thing..." She muttered, as she squinted in thought. "There's actually a lot to (name)'s kind." Steven blinked. "Wait, really?" This statement brought him out of his trance as he finally tore his gaze away from you to regard Connie with a look of interest. "What kind of stuff did you find?"
"Well, for one they're actually just a literal mix of the avian and aqua. So they're literally called the 'hybrid class'."
Steven's eyes widened slightly. "A... hybrid, huh?" His hand idly started to move to his belly, his finger lightly tapping against his gemstone beneath his shirt. "What else did you find?"
"Well... uhm.. that's the thing." Her face fell as she recalled more information on the article. "It just kept saying thing like... How they're actually considered to be the most dangerous of the two."
Steven felt something freeze in his chest. "More... dangerous..?" His brows knitted slightly. His quiet tone caught Connie's attention as she looked over at him quizzically. "How so..?" Connie winced, noting the sudden tension in the boy's gaze. "Well... for one is that they're more powerful than both of the two original breed, because they actually have these powers that are like... crazy strong." She looked down at her lap, twiddling her thumbs as she continued on. "And apparently, the younger they are, the more hostile they're likely to be."
Strong powers... hostile...
"No..." he uttered. The ice began to burn as the two words registered in his head. "No, that- that can't be right..." He wasn't even aware of the sharp tone that made itself present in his voice as his brow lowered itself into a slight glower. "Th-there's no way their kind could be anymore dangerous than the other two." Connie looked back up at Steven, taken aback by his sudden shift in attitude. "I mean, (name) COMPLETELY subverts the whole aggressive siren stereotype!"
She flinched slightly when he raised his voice, and found herself stiffening beneath the boy's tension. "Well uhm-"
"Lady Connie! Milord Steven!"
The duo quickly turned to find you running towards them. You had a smile spread across your face as you waved the still very lively crab in your hand triumphantly. "Look at what I've caught!"
"That's fantastic, (name)!" Connie quickly put on a smile, clapping her hands at your achievement.
"Y-yeah! Way to go, lil universe!" Steven praised, finding it difficult to form his own smile.
Your smile broadened, wagging your tail in pride at their praises. As you sat down to eye your prize, the two teens turned back to each other, this time lowering their voices to a whisper.
"See? Lil universe is literally the exact opposite of what they say about their species!" He said in a near hiss. "How could they possibly know about how hybrids act??"
Connie shrugged, sneering worriedly at how defensive he was. "Well, I don't know... Things were probably different back then."
Steven stared for a moment "Y-yeah... Maybe." He uttered meekly.
An uncomfortable silence fell over the two of them as they mulled over what they've learned, while you idly sat by them, trying to avoid the angry crab's flailing pincers.
"It... was just an old book I found at the library... it was written a long time ago." She spoke softly, her voice genuine and reassuring. "Maybe things have changed since then."
Steven smiled turned to Connie, smiling slightly at her comforting words.
