Prompt: SoTotallyLittleWoods: Best Friend's Sibling
*I was watching their Bloody Trapland playthrough while writing this so /shrugs/ I don't know. I hope this is fine and you enjoy!*
“We’re going over to the Cottrell’s house later today, Martyn. Make sure you’re ready to go by noon. Mrs. Cottrell said you could stay the night if you wanted.”
“Aw really? Yea!” I run upstairs, the clock on the wall telling me I have roughly forty-five minutes until we’re leaving. It doesn’t take long for me to get ready, switching out my pajama shirt for a green one with a swirly pattern on the front. I shove a few things into a duffel, hopping down the stairs to find my parents in the kitchen.
“All ready to go?” I nod, excited to go see Ridge (and Toby, Ridge’s brother, but shhh.. Don’t tell anyone) after not seeing him for a few days when he came over to play Minecraft on the Xbox after I talked my parents into letting me get it.
Since they live not even a block away we walk, their house simple enough with a small porch in both the front and the back, the house painted a light blue color.
I stand behind my parents as they knock, a pan of freshly made brownies in hand. Ridge’s dad, Lewis, answers the door, smiling and stepping to the side to let us in. “Hey guys! Glad you could come. Hey Martyn, long time no see.”
“Hello Lewis, how are you?”
“I’m fine. Are you staying the night?”
I nod, taking my shoes off and setting my duffle bag on the floor. “Yea, if that’s alright with you.”
He laughs. “Of course! You’re always welcome here. Glad to have you.”
I follow my parents down the hall into the kitchen where Ridge’s mom, Paula, is talking to my mom. “Hello Martyn! Ridge is upstairs in his room if you want to go hang out with him. Lunch should be done soon.”
“Hello Paula!” I quickly leave the kitchen, scooting past Lewis and up the stairs.
Ridge’s room is right next to Toby’s, his door wide open to reveal a cluttered room and an unmade bed. I don’t see anyone from my quick glance inside his room, continuing on to Ridge’s room. The door to Ridge’s room is partially closed, and I call out before entering.
“Come in.”
“Hey Ridge,” I say, pushing the door open. Ridge sits at his clutter free desk, clicking away at something on his computer. I walk over, looking over his shoulder at the screen. “Whatcha doing?”
“Wha- oh hey Martyn. I found this new game called Bloody Trapland. It looks pretty cool.” He flips through the screenshots of the game, showing what looks to be little cats or something of different colors standing by a door with various obstacles in the way. I laugh when one of the pictures shows a blue cat thing with a hat and monocle, words at the bottom saying you can play online with friends.
“Wow, it looks pretty fun.” He nods.
“Yea, I’m going to see if we can get it and play it. You’re spending the night, right?” I nod. “Cool. I’ll ask Toby if you can borrow his computer. I’m sure he’ll say yes, he seems to like you.”
I blush slightly at his words, glad he turned back to the computer and is clicking through pictures of the game again. Trying to think of something to say I’m glad that Paula calls up the stairs saying lunch is ready.
We go downstairs and grab a plate, Lewis saying it’s okay if we eat in the living room as long as we don’t make a mess. Toby comes down as we are grabbing ham sandwiches, joining us in the living room after he has food.
“Hey Martyn, how are you doing?”
I give him a thumbs up, having just taken a bite of my sandwich. “Good, how are you?”
“Good. Glad summer’s finally here.”
I nod. “I know the feeling.”
We make idle chit chat while we eat, Toby seemingly trying to make an effort to talk to me. I try not to think too much into it, knowing that when you like someone you tend to see things that aren’t there.
“When you guys are done you can come have a brownie” We get up and go into the kitchen. “Make sure you say thank you to Hannah for making them, even though I told her not to bring anything,” Paula gives a pointed look at my mom and she laughs.
“What? I had to bring something! Will wouldn’t have let us come otherwise.” They continue to talk as we grab one and run back into the living room, shouting our thanks as we go.
We hang out and watch tv for a few hours, moving upstairs to Ridge’s room to show Toby Bloody Trapland. After my parents are gone Ridge goes to talk to his parents about getting Bloody Trapland, Toby letting me use his computer.
Ridge leaves us alone in his room, both of us sitting on his once-made bed. I blush at the thought of being alone with Toby, knowing this isn’t the first time Toby and I have been alone, but the first time since I realized I liked him.
“Hey Martyn,” I look up, Toby flicking the hair out of his face. “What’s wrong? You got really quiet when Ridge left.”
I shake my head. “No, I’m fine.”
He scoots slightly closer to me. “Are you sure?”
Trying to keep calm I nod. “Yea. Just thinking.”
“About what?” He scoots closer.
“Nothin,” I look at Ridge’s bedspread, at the red and gold blanket.
“Are you sure,” He breathes into my ear. I jump at how close he is, turning on instinct. I find his face mere inches from mine, my face instantly heating up. “Because it doesn’t seem like nothing.”
He leans forward and kisses me, my body frozen in shock. He leans back and laughs. “What?”
“Nothing,” He says in a mocking voice. I smile and lean forward, kissing him again. “Do you think we can talk Ridge into letting you sleep in my room?”
