Prompt: Smornby - Teacher/Student AU

A/N: It isn't like NSFW but theres a tiny bit of touching that happens very briefly

It isn't the best way to spend a weekend, but it beats sitting at home alone playing GTA. At least this pays fairly well.

The bus ride is making me reconsider, though.

While the kids only have to sit two to a seat, it doesn't change the fact that it's been almost three hours of sitting with no pit stops. It doesn't help that the other two teachers that came with have spent the last hour talking about Dungeons And Dragons, something I never really found interesting.

"She's just- I can't really see Elora being with anyone. She's not against it, she's just not really looking for love right now," I hear Miss Morrison say.

I glance over at where she and Mr. Hulmes are sitting, Mr. Hulmes - Mark - nodding along with what Miss Morrison - Katie - is saying. "She's probably going to have to get married someday, and Nalistri-"

"Wha- did you say Nasal tree? There's a guy named Nasal Tree?" I cut in, both of them turning to look at me.

Mark laughs. "No, it's Na-lis-tri, not Nasal Tree. What kind of a name is Nasal Tree?"

"There's a giant bird named 'The Rock,'" Katie interjects, tucking a strand of her vibrant red hair behind her ear. "It wouldn't surprise me if that was his name."

Mark starts talking about how it's supposed to be pronounced roke not rock and it's not his fault they mispronounce it, and I turn and look out the window, wondering why I said anything at all.

~.~

Wandering around the Battle Of Britain Museum, Mr. Hulmes tells the group of students about military aircrafts we used during World War Two. I'm wandering behind the group, making sure we don't accidentally leave anyone behind.

I stop to read a sign talking about plane designs, the group not realizing they're leaving me behind.

It doesn't take long to catch up though, Mr. Hulmes frequently stopping to explain why this was like this and that was like that.

Two boys, one with a grin on his face that screams trouble and the other looking dubious at his friend, lag behind a bit, neither seemingly interested in the planes to their left and right.

"C'mon Trotty, it'll be fun!" The taller one says.

"You can't just go around setting things on fire. Especially not on a school trip," he hisses, looking around. Chris Trott - a student who likes to go by his last name instead of his first name for some reason - sees me standing behind them and his eyes go wide.

Alex Smith - who also likes to go by his last name - turns and looks at me as well. His troublemaking smile is replaced with something more innocent. "Oh, hey Mr. Hornby, you didn't happen to hear any of that, did you?"

"Yes, I did. Why don't you two follow me and we'll go talk to Mr. Hulmes about your idea."

Alex Smith is a well-known troublemaker, namely his habit of trying to set things on fire in the science lab. He's also known for being a flirt, constantly hitting on male teachers, including me. He's an attractive person, with dark blue eyes and ginger hair. If he was a few years older..

"Guess you'll have to keep an extra close eye on me, won't you Mr. Hornby?" Smith winks.

I shake my head and wave at them to follow me as I make my way up towards where Mr. Hulmes is.
