Chapter 4

I woke up later than usual today. It had been a late, but interesting, night. At first, I thought it had all been a dream. I concentrated and allowed my hand to sweep to the left and just like last night, I caused sparks and a slight breeze. I am someone who loves a lot of things. I love the way people look when they first wake up and have forgotten their surroundings. I love the gasp people take when their favorite character in a book dies. I love when people close their eyes and allow their imaginations to take over. I love empty cups that once held steaming tea. I love a boy who will never love me back. But above all, I love discovering and learning the things people believe to be impossible, like magic. I constantly fall in love with moments like these. The feeling is too beautiful to put into words.

This morning I realized, magic is simply where your imagination and reality collide.

My phone vibrated:

Ben: Hey, we're having a little surprise party for Luce at the theater later today to welcome her back. She gets out of the hospital this afternoon so we're going to set up and her mom will bring her over.

Me: Great idea! I'll be right over!

Ben: Okay, drag Kaitlyn here too, you know how she is with getting places on time...

Me: I'm on it! Wish me luck cx

I walked into Kaitlyn's house, preparing to wake her up. I opened the door to her room, only to find Kaitlyn and everything else that should have been on her bed, on the floor. I prodded her awake with my foot and asked, "Why is everything on the floor?"

"Gravity, Mara," she mumbled before giving a huge yawn.

Who knew she could even be a smartass this early in the day...

"Is it really necessary to capture the obvious Kate?" I replied with an eye roll. "Anyway, we have a mission. We're throwing Luce a surprise party at the theater to welcome her back and we have to go help with the set up."

Kaitlyn got up with a groan. "The things I do for this girl..."

After hours of preparation, Luce's mom texted us to let us know she was on her way with Luce. When she gets here, Luce looks around in awe.

"Oh my gods. You guys did all this for me?"

"Well," Sam said. "Your mom and dad helped."

"I can't believe all of you are here."

"Well, not all of us," Jack said. He had talked things over with Luce. "I couldn't get the stupid ghost to come. He was being stubborn. Watch, he'll just haunt us when we perform."

"Jack, can you talk using your mouth and not your ass for once?" Ben asked. "We're all really glad your okay Luce. We've missed having you here with us."

"I've missed being here with you guys. Hospitals suck major d@%#."

We all laughed. I decided to turn on some music, this was a theater after all. One Direction was my music of choice.

"Who the hell is playing this crap?" Asks Luce, who is unfortunately not a Directioner like myself. Everyone turns to look at me and I feel myself start to blush. I honestly blush at everything, it's quite irritating.

"It's One Direction," I state.

"Turn it off, please! My eardrums are bleeding," Cal said. "Mara, you were supposed to play MUSIC, not 'music'."

After turning it off, I turned to Cal and said, " I hope you know that bashing my music taste increases your chance of changing my opinion by 0%!"

"How 'bout I put on music instead?" Luce suggested, walking over to the sound booth. "See, Mara, this is music..."
