now, there are many different ways to get into the fandom,
it sort of depends on the person,
but for me I started this journey with....
fucking despising the entire thing.
I hated it SO much.
then my already obsessed best friend stayed over at my house for a night cuz we hella clingy, and it was like 2 am and they started making jokes over "other peoples taste in men vs my taste in men" and started memeing it with Eret in the strawberry dress.
short story, took me another four months for me to get into the fandom.
why did I start to get obsessed?

but something that has really helped with the 'lore' (with I will explain soon) was the following recap videos:

I PERSONALLY speedran this step and binged watched them all in one day, started this binge at 12 am.
it was a school night.

I haven't watched the one about Las Nevadas lore yet, but I have watched quackitys vod so that filled in a few gaps.
another thing, it does explain this in the second video (I think? I dont remember but it does explain it somewhere) where the lore comes from, but it is basically just Wilbur going batshit crazy and basically creating both a crack fix and,
