Part 1 Diane changes her mind (again) SPOILERS for flux

Dan felt like his heart had been shattered into a million pieces, as he walked out of the museum.
It had happened again; his love for someone had ended in heart break.
He loved her, he really loved her and he thought she felt the same.
Oh how wrong I was, how wrong I was. I can't ever fall in love again;it's far too painful.
I don't understand. I thought she loved me. He groaned out loud.
I wasn't late! I wasn't late, Di! I was taken by Karvanista! Well, if she's happy that's all I should care about.
But I can't. I just can't get her out of my head and I just can't understand it. I really thought she loved me! So why did she change her mind after worrying that I changed my mind?!?

He had been pacing up and down, but had now stopped to wipe his eyes.

Just forget her!
I cant!
Please help someone please!

"Dan."
" Di. .. " his voice broke as he said this.
" Dan I am sorry. "
She ran and hugged him but he stiffened and didn't hug her back.
She noticed this and said " I'm sorry"

Tears were running down his cheeks and as she pulled away to look to him in the eye she noticed.
"Oh, Dan.. Don't cry. Please." She reached out and wiped a tear off his cheek.
He took her hand and rubbed his thumb over it.

"I--- I can't help it, Di....I wasn't late. I really wasn't. I was kidnapped by Karvanista,and taken out into space!"

" oh"

"Then I was rescued by Yaz and the doctor. Then I went back in time to the Crimean war. Then I was teleported back home and I tried ringing you. You didnt answer and I had to go to get rid of the potato-heads who had taken over earth. But long story short, after all that a weeping angel, another sort of alien, sent Yaz and I back in time and we were stuck there for years! I never forgot you, Di. I missed you so much. And I kept worrying about you because I knew you weren't safe in Liverpool where you belong; Swarm had you."

She stood in shock.
" I love you! " He started to sob " I was stupid to think you felt anything for me. I just want you to be happy, so I'll go and leave you to get on with your life, without me. "

He turned away, loosening his grip as he did so but Diane grabbed him and pulled him back to face her, now crying herself.
" Dan! Stop! Don't ! "
He was still crying.
" I love you too! I'm sorry! " she ran into his arms and this time he hugged her back.
" when I said 'maybe not tomorrow' I didn't mean never! I wasn't ready after being trapped in the Passenger for so long, but now I know that you've been through worse, and I'm sorry. " she cried.

He sniffed laughing and trying to get rid of his tears. "Look at us, look what a mess we are."

She smiled with tears still running down her cheeks.

" Diane!!! Come back here now or you're fired!!!! "

" Gosh, I need to go, sorry" she shot out of his arms but turned around, hesitating.

" I meant it, and get Dan Lewis away from our museum! "

" sorry Dan, I - -I I'll come tomorrow. " and with that she shot off up the stairs after Alan leaving Dan with wet cheeks but a huge smile on his face.
