Seven Months Later
I check my phone and see that I got a text from Niall.
Niall: I'm landing.
I smile with excitement as I wait for him to meet me in the airport.
It's been seven whole months since that day in my apartment. I'm still living there, and I'm still best friends with Anna and Katherine. Everything's been going super smoothly. I have a job, well, sorta. I just play piano at a bar once a week, but it's money and that's all that matters. I turned nineteen last week, and Katherine and Anna threw me a huge surprise party. They really are amazing friends. I'm so thankful for them.
A lots happened with One Direction. Last year, Zayn ended up leaving the band. One Direction made another album, which is amazing, but not the same without Zayn. Also, Anna and Liam started dating, even though they've technically been a "long distance" couple for the past seven months.
Niall and I have been texting each other and Skyping each other like crazy. I'd definitely consider him to be one of my best friends too, even thought we haven't actually physically been together for a while. Today was going to be absolutely amazing.
I stood there, waiting to see his familiar blonde hair poke through the crowd. After a few minutes of waiting, I finally did. My heart raced.
"Niall!" I called.
His bright blue eyes caught mine and I saw his face light up with excitement. He ran up to me, dropping his bags, and lifted me up, twirling me around.
"Fuck, I missed you." He whispers.
"I missed you too."
He puts me down and looks into my eyes. The height difference between us wasn't bad at all, we were only four inches apart, so it was easy to look him in the eyes.
"Did you cut your hair?" He asked, twirling a piece with his finger.
I nodded. I ended up cutting it a little passed shoulder length. I felt like I needed a nice hair change.
"It looks amazing."
I smile, then help him grab one of his bags. We make our way to my car and load his bags in.
"How was the tour?" I ask, buckling my seatbelt.
"Terrific, it was amazing!" He went on to tell me about all the different countries that he's visited and how amazing all the fans were.
The fans, by the way, stopped spreading rumors. They learned that Niall and I were just friends.
We got back to my apartment, where Niall would be staying for a little while.
"You should just move in with me, Niall. It would be super fun!"
"Actually, that's what I wanted to talk to you about." He smiled as I stopped the car.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I was thinking we should move in together. But in a bigger apartment. I was looking at apartments in Manhattan, and I found a two-floored apartment that would be amazing for us. What do you think?" He bit his lip.
"Are you serious?" I asked, unable to control my excitement.
He nodded.
"Oh my God, YES!"After telling Katherine and Anna about the news, they came over to celebrate.
"I can't believe we won't be neighbors anymore." says Anna.
"I know, it'll be weird. But the good thing is the new apartment is only a ten minute walk. So we could still hang out a lot!"
Niall went on to my computer to Google a picture of the apartment. It was pretty big, actually, and looked like a house, but without a driveway. There were two floors, and they were both pretty big as well.
"It looks lovely, Niall, I can't wait."
He looked up at me and smiled.
Katherine grabbed my arm and pulled me to the kitchen.
"So, are you two, like, a thing?" She whispered.
I shook my head. "I'm totally over that, we're like super close friends now. It would be weird at this point, you know?"
She nodded, but sighed. "You two would've been so cute."
We walked back over to Niall who was still looking at images on my computer.
"When are we moving there?" I asked.
"Maybe...tomorrow?"
"Oh shit, then I need to pack." So I took a few hours to pack up my stuff while the three of them watched TV.
"Hey, Mia, Katherine and I were just discussing this, but when you move, I think I might live here." Says Anna.
"Really?"
"Yeah, I mean, Katherine and I are like super close, but I think having the extra space would be better."
I nod. "That's fine. I'm leaving stuff like the bed, fridge, TV, and furniture like that. So it's all yours!" I close my suitcase filled with clothes.
"I think I'm going to head out now. Maybe go furniture shopping and start filling up our new apartment. I'll call you tonight and we can move in tomorrow." Niall stands up and grabs his phone and wallet, then gives me a hug.
"See you tomorrow." I say.
He smiles. "See ya."
When he leaves, I open my laptop and see that he did in fact purchase the apartment all by himself. I was so excited. I decided to call my parents and tell them the news. They were proud of me that I was growing up and making "adult decisions."
I decided to help Anna begin moving some of her stuff in my apartment, since this was now technically hers. She put her sheets on the bed and hung some pictures up around the bedroom.
I let her sleep over and get a feel for the bed, and I slept on the couch. It still felt unreal that Niall and I will be living together tomorrow. It's so amazing.I woke up to a knock on my door, so I quickly jumped up and ran to the door.
"Morning." It was Niall, smiling.
I rubbed my eyes, since I just woke up. "Morning." I mumbled, my voice sounding all gross.
"Did I wake you?" He asked, concerned.
I shook my head. "It's fine, I needed to get up anyway. So, are we moving?" I asked.
He nodded. "I got up super super early and filled the house with furniture. I hope you like it. I know your favorite color's purple so I got you some purple decorations and..." He rambled on as I grabbed my bags and suitcases. I said goodbye to Anna and told her I'd call her later. Then I left the house key on the table, and shut the door.
Niall and I got into my car, and drove down the road, around the block, then reached our new apartment.
It was absolutely gorgeous in person. He handed me a house key, and then we got out of the car. He helped me carry in my bags.
I opened the door, and was in awe. It was amazing. He lead me to my room where I threw my bags on the floor and began to unpack. He then gave me a little tour of the place.
"This is amazing, Niall." I gave him a big hug. His fingers ran through my hair and he twirled the ends.
"I'm so glad you like it."Niall apparently went food shopping too, thank God, so I decided to make us both sandwiches for lunch.
I ended up not living up to that whole vegetarian thing I had planned when I moved to Manhattan, but oh well.
I served Niall his sandwich on the kitchen table.
"Thank you, ma'am." He said in a cheerful tone.
"You're welcome, kind sir." I said in the same tone.
We both giggled and dug into our sandwiches.
"We have our own apartment." Niall said through a mouthful of food.
I nodded, raising my eyebrows instead of using words.
"So," he started, putting the sandwich on his plate. "What's been going on since I left? Any boyfriends?" He says teasingly.
I shake my head. "No boyfriends, plural." I laugh.
"Singular?"
"None at all."
"I'm shocked." He takes another bite.
"Why are you shocked?"
"Have you looked in a mirror?"
My heart flutters at this comment. "Yes, I think so." I say sarcastically.
"Well, any guy would be lucky enough to date you. You're gorgeous, and sometimes a little funny."
I blush, but try to play it cool. "A little funny, huh? Just a little?"
He nods. "Some days you're funnier than others."
I nod. "Oh, I see. So anyways, what about you? Any girlfriends, plural?"
He chuckles. "Girlfriends, plural, no. But I have a girlfriend, singular."
My heart stops.
"You have a girlfriend?" My voice comes out a bit too shaky.
"Yeah, you seem shocked."
"No, it's just, you didn't tell me that." My voice trailed off.
"I thought I did. My bad."
"What's her..what's her name?" I put the sandwich down on the plate.
"Emma. She lives back in my hometown in Ireland. I've known her since I was a little boy, but finally asked her out when we went to Ireland for the tour."
"Oh."
"I don't know when I'll be able to see her, which is the harder part. But it's still amazing." He smiles.
"Oh." I say again.
"You okay? You look a bit pale." He says.
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine. Just dehydrated I think." I took a gulp of my water.
After lunch, I finish unpacking everything I brought. Anna said she'll be sending over the piano within the next few days. I unpacked my easel and decided to paint. I haven't been painting much since I moved to Manhattan. After a few hours, I finished my painting of the city.
I hear a knock on my door, which was open. I turn to see Niall.
"Did you paint that?" He asks, pointing at my painting.
"No." I said sarcastically, holding the paintbrush in my hand, and my arm was covered in paint.
"Ha, ha. It's really nice, Mia." He said, observing my work.
"Thanks."
"Listen," he takes my arm and pulls me onto my bed, facing me.
"I'm sorry I left you for seven months."
"Niall, it's okay. Really."
"Are you sure?"
I nod.
"Okay." And he walks out of my room and into his down the hall.
I get up and close the door, then lay down in my bed on my stomach.
I realize that maybe I do still have feelings for Niall. Him telling me he has a girlfriend made me realize them. I quietly sobbed into my pillow, hoping he wouldn't hear.
