Chapter 24 - Detention

Hermione P.O.V

Ron holds the book Umbridge gave him.

"We're not using magic?"

"You will be learning spells in a secure, risk free way."

"What use is that, if we get attacked it won't really be 'risk free'." I say rolling my eyes.

"Student will raise their hands when they want to speak in this classroom."

"Yes but how is that theory going to protect us from what's out there?" Harry says and most of the class nod in agreement.

She chuckles.

"Oh and who do you suppose wants to hurt young people such as yourselves?" I see Harry get annoyed.

"Oh I don't know maybe Lord Voldemort." He says sarcastically. Umbridge stops smiling and takes a deep breath. Ron nudges Harry and tells him to calm down. The whole class suddenly bursts into whispers.

"Mr Potter, would you like to receive a detention from me? Because I'll gladly give you one."

"For what?" I say to her annoyed. She looks at me and narrows her eyes.

"For telling lies, people are frightened enough as it is. We don't need you spreading fake news." She walks around the class. "We have been told that a strong dark wizard is coming back and he's becoming stronger. This. Is. A. Lie."

"He's responsible for the death of innocent muggles. Surely you must know that." I say.

"ENOUGH!" The class falls silent. "We must know by now that the death of these muggles are tragic accidents."

"Detention Mister Potter and Miss Granger. I will see the both of you in my office after class." Harry grunts and stands up before leaving the classroom being sure to slam the door behind him. Ron grabs his stuff.

I walk out of the classroom to see Harry pacing. The twins and Oliver come out a second later. The twins tell us they have to do something before patting me and Harry on the shoulder and heading off.

"Harry you left your stuff." Ron shouts over to him. Harry turns to see Ron and takes his things with no emotions showing on his face.

"Are you alright?"

"Well what do you think Ron, me and Hermione have just been called liars." I look down.

"Don't pay attention to Umbridge. You guys aren't liars." Oliver says as he wraps his arms around my shoulder to offer comfort. I weakly smile at him.

"Yeah well tell that to Umbridge." Harry says through clenched teeth.

"She's just trying to get under your skin that's all. She doesn't want to admit the truth."

Harry sighs and walks down the hallway.

"Should I go after him?" Ginny says.

"Give him time Gin. He needs to cool off." I say and she nods.

Fred and George come running down the hallway.

"Cedric can't participate!" They yell.

"What?" The twins stop and catch their breath before speaking again.

"Listen to this." They show me a piece of parchment so that the others can't see. Fred starts reading.

"Due to Cedric's incident, we are aware of the consequences of the Triwizard Tournament."
