On Old Earth's dying land, a sorceress connected with the Spirit Realm. Using her newfound limitless powers, she lifted the remainders of life and land into the heavens. By mixing the clouds and islands with her power, she created an eternal vortex that shielded the people from harsh outside conditions. Upon completion, she announced its name to the populus, the Cloud Realm. The people were eternally grateful and bestowed her the title Sky Goddess.

Given their proximity to the stratosphere and surrounded by the Goddess' magic, strange events occurred. People on the outskirts of her vortex began to develop genetic mutations dubbed "Meta Abilities". These ranged from spinning fibers to creating metals, fire, and ice from skin lipids or even gaining bird-like features. These people declared themselves as Meta Humans.

Simultaneously others within the middle discovered the ability to harness their inner energy dubbed "Chakra". They used this energy to summon water or objects out of thin air as well as run at inhuman speeds. Their elusiveness led to the name Cloud Ninjas.

Yet still, a rarer group of people near the center found themselves able to directly connect with the atmosphere and utilize "Magic". Their versatile abilities far surpassed the other two groups. Soon, they started to take over even the night and day. Some were able to harness the power of celestial bodies. This formidable power earned them the nickname Doomsday Mages!

"Stop calling them Doomsday Mages!" a boy protested.

He scrunched his nose and folded his arms over his wool pajama shirt. The firelight half shadowed his dark toned face. His dark eyes stared through his dark, curly bangs up into the warm orbs of his father.

The tall man leaned back in his chair with a hearty laugh.

"Dad!! It's not funny! They didn't cause any destruction!" the boy shouted.

The father sighed as he ran a large, brown hand through his dark, slick locks.

"People were afraid of their power, Hakku. Quite frankly they still are. Hence, the nickname has remained over the years."

"But Dad! You're a Meta like Mama and I! You worked with nice Mages!"

"That's true, I did work with them until you were born. But Hiraku I was the exception, not the rule. Most Metas think Mages are stuck up and overpowered and refuse to work with them. If I didn't have the connections I did, I probably would have been killed or thrown out. Mages think Metas are lazy and pessimistic, so they refuse to work with us, too."

The boy's arms dropped between his crossed legs. He glanced towards the fireplace. His eyes started to water against the ash particles.

"How come, Dad?" he whimpered. "How come they don't like us? What did we do?"

"They think we stole half of the Cloud Realm's Magic eighteen years ago. Nine years before you were born."

Hakku whipped his head back to his father. A ferocity blazed in his coal eyes.

"But we didn't! I know we didn't! That's a wrongful accusation!"

The father bobbed his massive head.

"Yes, Hakku. I know. Make note that Magic did disappear, and it's supposedly stored in a book in the Inner Clouds. However, there were underlying reasons that did not involve Metas."

"But what reasons are good enough to cast out an entire group of innocent people, Dad?"

The father stroked his bushy beard.

"I only heard them third-hand. So I do not want to repeat them thoughtlessly. Regardless, the incident has bred hatred in both the Metas and the Mages."
