Hakku slid off his aviator glasses and stuffed them in one of his suit's chest pockets. Despite it being mid-afternoon, the cap provided enough shade. He didn't even read the signs pointing to the shaded docks behind him and the sunny market just ahead.
At the sight of the bustle, his eyes sparked to life. There were four dirt-path aisles with wooden stands on either side. The supplies sat under large, cloth tents of various designs. The young man made his way through the crowd. Some stands had extremely long lines while others were barren. Hakku pulled out a piece of paper from one of his hip pockets.
"Let's see," he muttered, "In terms of food I need jerky, a water keg, dried fruit, and canned vegetables. Perhaps I'll get some bread and other dry ingredients for sandwiches."
A small weight pulled down his chest. He sighed.
"I'm certainly going to miss Mom's oven-fresh food."
Suddenly, he snapped his fingers.
"Oh! I know how to hunt, so I'll make sure one of my crewmates knows how to cook as well!!" he exclaimed.
He glanced down at his list. Suddenly, he bumped into an object. Hakku looked around. Nothing was there.
"Strange," he thought.
He shrugged and continued walking.
The crowd was mostly men ranging from young teenagers all the way up to near-death.
"Sky Tuna! Freshly caught today!"
Hakku looked at the standowner. A man in overalls and a cloth cap stood behind bed-sized buckets of tuna with wings.
"Oooh those look good! Too bad they're too expensive."
"Aether Insurance! Taking off with us is a breeze!"
The teenager whipped his head the other direction.
"Hmm, getting insurance is something I should consider."
"Volcano Island is threatening to erupt again! Read it in The Raven!" a newspaper stand announced.
Hakku shook his head.
"I'll read that paper once it stops making cyclones out of gusts."
"Jerky! Jerky!"
The young man whirled towards the stand. Upon seeing no line, he dashed forward. The standowner was a tan, middle-aged man with dark hair and still, dark eyes.
"I see your business is still doing well Mr. Omphalos!" Hakku greeted with a smile.
The man chortled behind his bushy mustache.
