Namjoon stepped down from the ladder as carefully and quietly as he could. It was well past three in the morning and every creak sounded like gun fire to his ears. After four nights of no sleep, sneaking and tip toeing around, he was finally just about done. It wasn't easy either, he had been bringing in boxes of unassembled furniture as quietly as possible, even when they were bigger than he was. He wasnt sure how he'd gotten away with it.
Leila and Mia must've slept like rocks.
Things hadn't gotten any better with Leila since the whole boyfriend debacle. It had already been a couple of days since they'd said anything to eachother. He wanted nothing more than to sit with her and spend time with both of them before they left in three days but it just wasn't going to happen anymore. He was grateful for the opportunity to come home every night to spend time with his daughter, atleast but Leila would always go into her room and leave them alone.
Whenever he was around her, it was in a group setting and she would spend the entire time engulfed in her phone. Sometimes he'd see smile or giggle at something she was watching. He caught her laughing to herself once and then she stared at Yoongi across the room while he was on his own phone. He laughed as well and locked eyes with her briefly before typing something. Namjoon realized then, that they had been exchanging messages but he didnt bring it up to Yoongi. He was already discouraged as it was and questioning Yoongi about that wouldn't change anything.
She'd even taken to eating lunch with Jungkook and often times now, Namjoon ate alone. He could've eaten with one of the guys but he didn't want them to bring up the topic of him and Leila because it was too much for him.
She wouldn't even look at him anymore. It was abundantly clear that he had hurt her, again. His inability to show the real him to the world would always get in the way of them but there was no way he could change that.
That was one of the main reasons Namjoon was so jealous of Jackie. Jackie had the freedom to have it all with Leila. Namjoon was doing the most he could with the conditions present but he'd never have them how he really wanted to. This room was about all he could provide to bring them some sort of happiness.
He had painted the walls a pastel blue over a girly pink because in the time he'd gotten to know Mia she very rarely gravitated towards the color. Leila also didn't dress her much in pink. Whenever she had something pink on, it was from the outfits the guys had gotten her. Leila was simple, she dressed in more neutral colors and in turn so did Mia. He did still add a bit of pink in her bed sheets and even on the rose design of the white letters on her wall that spelled out her name. After all, she was still his baby girl.
Namjoon screwed in the last bolt onto the guardrails of the bed and took a moment to look around the room at everything he'd gotten done in such a short time. Her bed was all set and he'd bought her a whole new set of woodland plushies for the first row of a bookshelf he filled with all the best children's books he could find in both English and Korean. Namjoon had bought her a little kitchenette that he knew she would love. He even added a dress up area for her with all costumes from baker to firefighter. He wanted her to know that the sky was the limit for her no matter the gender. He added one Cinderella costume in there in case she did want to be a princess instead.
But right now, seeing Mia's big girl bed put together, he realized that he was doing all of this in vain. They'd be gone in the next days and Mia wouldn't even really have a chance to enjoy what he had worked so hard on. The next time he saw her in person, she may not even need those guard rails anymore. She'd outgrow this room and him while he was hiding behind an image.
