Four Years Later

"Jojo!" Maya called from the kitchen of their large Seattle suburban home. After a few moments of silence, she yelled for her daughter again, "Jojo, breakfast!"

"I'm coming mama!" the five year old yelled from the top of the steps. "I'm just helping Matteo with his shirt."

Maya smiled at her daughter's voice. The curly haired little girl had just turned five years old last month and was everything they could have hoped for in a daughter. Even though she was only a year and a half older than her younger brothers, she acted like their little mama.

The chipper five year old bounced down the steps holding the hands of both of her brothers. "Benny needs a new shirt, mommy. He got his toothpaste on it," Matteo said with his distinctive lisp.

"Bennett," Maya said, "I told you to get dressed after you brushed your teethers."

"Sorry mommy," the little boy said through giggles as his mommy tickled him.

Bennett, better known as Benny, was Carina's carbon-copy. His dark brown eyes, olive skin, and thick wavy brunette hair were identical to his mama's. Matteo, sometimes known as Matt or Matty, was Benny's fraternal twin. If they weren't birthed by the same mother, no one would ever believe that they could be brothers. He looked like his sperm donor, who they intentionally chose to look like Maya. He had porcelain skin, bright blue eyes, and sunshine blonde hair. The only resemblance he had of his mama was the beauty mark they both shared right below their lip.

The three bambine sat down at the kitchen island on their respective stools. Maya placed two pancakes in front of each of them and poured them each a glass of milk. The three kids dug right in. The blonde hopped up on the counter across from them and said, "You know that today is a big day for mama, right? You three have to be on your very best behaviors."

"Okay, mommy," they all said in unison with mouthfuls of pancake.

Maya checked her watch and said, "We are going to leave in 15 minutes, so after breakfast, get your shoes and coats on. Okay?"

"Si, mommy," Jojo said. "I will help with the boys today. I promise we will be good."

"I still need a new shirt mommy," Benny said as he took his final bite.

"Ok bambino, let's go find you a new fancy button up from your closet. I'll race ya!" Maya teased.

Benny jumped from his stool and took off up the steps. Maya trailed him and grabbed his little ankles at the top of the steps to slow him down. Their laughter filled the large open space. "Mommy, I would have won!" the little brunette said through giggles.

"Maybe next time, Benny," Maya smiled. She walked into the boys' room and pulled out a new shirt for him. "This one looks good, bub. What do you think?" He offered his mommy a large grin and shook his head yes. She pulled the dirtied top off of him and slipped on his new one. "Much better," she said. She kissed the top of his head and patted his butt out of the room.

"Okay little loves, are you ready?" the captain asked.

"Yup, just helping Matty tie his dress shoes, mommy," Jojo shared. The little girl finished helping her brother and then slipped on her shiny black Mary Jane shoes.

"You are the best big sister, Jose, you know that right?" Maya shared. She ruffled the little girl's tight curls and smiled down at her.

"I know," she said with a cheeky grin. One thing was for sure, the little girl had the confidence of both of her mothers combined.
