"Alicia! Wait!" Maya screamed. She sprinted down the back stairway of Grey Sloan in an attempt to catch up with the distraught teenager. The captain finally found her sitting on the cold ground of the third floor landing, completely out of breath.
"Is this why you helped me?" Alicia asked. Her breathing was extremely labored and Maya was very concerned. She squatted down next to her and placed a reassuring hand to her knee to try and calm her.
Maya looked at her with her tear-soaked ocean eyes and breathed out a resounding, "No."
"Then why did you?"
"Because Carina and I genuinely love and care about you."
Alicia buried her head between her knees and sobbed. "What the hell is going on Maya? Please just tell me the truth."
The blonde desperately wanted Andy and Carina to be around for this moment, but she shared everything anyway. "From the first night we met, I felt like I recognized you from somewhere. I asked Carina about it, but neither of us could put our finger on it. I decided to just let it go. Then, after the fire I started to put more and more together. When you shared that you were adopted it was like all of the pieces fell into place."
"How do you know Andy is my biological mother?"
Maya sighed loudly and said, "We don't for sure, but it certainly seems that way. I recognized you because you are the perfect combination of Andy and your biological father."
Alicia raised her head slightly and looked at her confused. "You know my biological dad?"
"I did... he is Tanner's dad, too."
"Did?" Alicia rested her head up against the cinderblock wall and hit her head a few times as she took in the news that she could potentially have a full blooded sibling.
Maya added, "Unfortunately, he passed away in an accident about six years ago before he even knew that Andy was pregnant with Tanner. Ryan was the best guy. I see a lot of you in him. Commendable, brave, honest... all of it."
Alicia snapped slightly and said, "I got those traits from my mom. Not the people who gave me up!"
Maya should have known better than to compare Alicia to the parents she has never known. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that. I know how much your mom meant to you. I don't want to take any of that away."
The teenager realized she may have overreacted and looked at the blonde regretfully. "So what now?"
"Well, I only spoke with Andy about this morning. This is all new to her, too."
"Wow. So, she had no idea?"
"None," Maya assured her. "We checked with Dr. Grey and you share the same blood type and the date Andy gave birth matches your birthday. We can run a DNA test to be sure."
"Okay," Alicia sighed. "I want to be sure. Can we do that?"
"Of course." Maya stood up and helped pull the teenager to her feet. "What do you want to do next?"
"I want to talk to Andy... alone."

Maya wheeled Alicia back up to her room and got her situated in the hospital bed. She pulled Carina and Andy aside and filled them in on their conversation. At the end of it all, Maya looked at her best friend and said, "She wants to talk to you."
"Really?" she asked, shocked. "Okay."
"Are you okay with this?" Carina asked. She knew how heavy today felt for herself, so she could only imagine the weight this had on Andy. The curly haired brunette shook her head and slowly made her way into the room. It was now or never.
