"A Little Christmas Magic" Ch. 1

Nicole's 10th Birthday Merry and Bright, CO. 12/18/00

Ten years later....

Nicole woke up to the scent of Chocolate chip pancakes that her Mom Angie made for her for her birthday. Outside the town of Merry and Bright was busy getting ready for Christmas which was next week, but for now Nicole put her robe on and made her way downstairs and into the kitchen where Angie sat drinking her coffee while she ate her bagel. Nicole took a drink of milk before taking a bite of her pancakes. "Any plans for today. Angie said. Nicole swallowed the sip of milk before answering. I'm gonna ride my bike into town, and hang out at the Diner and help people with their bags." Nicole said. So pretty much the same thing that you've done for the past few years. Angie said with a smile. As Nicole finished her breakfast and took her plate and cup to the sink Angie said. If you wait a few mins Robert can give you a lift into town. At the mention of Robert's name Nicole turned to her Mom and said in flat voice No Thank You, and left the kitchen. Nicole. Angie said firmly What is your problem with Robert? In a nutshell Nicole said I don't like him, nor do I trust him. Angie let out the breath she had been holding. Just give Robert a chance. Angie said calmly. "When pigs fly. Nicole called out as she headed upstairs to her room. Two years ago her Mom had invited Robert to her 8th birthday party and with him was his stuck up daughter Abby. Needless to say Nicole wasn't happy about her Mom's boyfriend and his daughter turning up to her party at the invitation of her Mom so Nicole took the backstair case, went out the back door and headed into town, and stayed at the Diner until it was about to  close for the night. Nicole's friend Jonathan sat with her as they ate lunch together, and he had taken her shopping for her birthday before they went back to the Diner for dinner. When it got dark Jonathan walked her home." Nicole was getting dressed when her Mom knocked on the door. Come in. Nicole said. Angie walked in and sat on Nicole's bed as Nicole got dressed. When she was dressed Nicole turned to her Mom and asked her What was wrong? Her Mom took a deep breath, and said that Robert had invited them to dinner at his house tonight. Before Angie could finish Nicole's voice was ice cold as she said NOPE, No Way, Forget I! I'd rather spend time with my friend Jonathan then that Jerk and his Flying Monkey for a daughter. With that Nicole sat down and brushed her hair. Angie crossed her arms and said What are you gonna eat for dinner then? Nicole looked at her Mom in the mirror and said it's my tenth birthday therefore I will be eating my dinner at the Diner. You go if you want. Nicole said to her Mom but tell the Jerk that I declined his dinner invitation. Angie got up and left and texted Robert that Nicole declined his dinner invitation and will be eating at the Diner. After she texted Robert Angie sat down to figure out what was wrong with Nicole. Everytime Robert was mentioned Nicole's eyes and voice went ice cold, and she couldn't figure out the Icicle birthmark on the back of Nicole's neck. Ten years ago a man left Nicole on her doorstep when she was a baby, but now Angie was starting to wonder where Nicole came from, and who were her parents.
