Ena POV

Buzz buzz.

That was the sound of my phone going off in my pocket.

Miss Yukizome had just dismissed us from class after what felt like a long boring day.

This day was quite different for me to say the least, for once - I didn't have lunch with Hajime but rather with Nagito Komaeda.

We talked all lunch period, well more like Nagito talked and I listened. Despite that, hearing him talk is actually soothing when he's not going on about hope. I felt like I learned a bit about him today, though I do feel a little bad for him.

He first talked to me about his likes and dislikes, then he went on to talk about his talent and a bit about his life at home.

Apparently Nagito comes from a super rich family. His parents aren't around so he lives alone. As far as I know, he doesn't have any siblings or other close relatives he could rely on.

Hearing Nagito tell me these things caused me to feel overwhelmed and empathetic. Yet despite everything he told me, he still kept a calm composure and smiled through his reality. It was almost as if none of it phased him.

Or maybe he's just good at hiding his true feelings, or maybe he's just numb to it.

"Ena"

I was brought back to reality from the sound of Nagito calling my name.

I looked around the classroom, which was now empty. I then looked out the window where my desk sits nearby everyday. The sun casted it's evening rays across half of the classroom while the sky shown off it's orange-red tint. Nagito sat in the desk in front of me with his phone out.

"Did you see the email?" He asked.

"Huh? Email?"

I finally opened my buzzing phone and read the email that appeared directly on my homescreen.

At that moment, I felt chills all over my body. I rubbed my eyes - in hopes that I read the email wrong and my eyes were just playing tricks on me.

But that little amount of hope I had was false. What I was seeing was in fact real, and it was sent to everyone across Hopes Peak Academy.

My eyes scanned the email quickly.

"Izuru Kamakura Project? Illegal human experiments?" I read quietly. I looked at Nagito who seemed to be deep in thought. He nodded his head, gesturing for me to continue reading.

Towards the end of the email, there was a video attached. I clicked on the video which took only about 5 seconds to open. What I saw was unlike anything I've ever seen before.

What appeared before me was security camera footage of one of the floors of the main course building. The footage came from all different angles, almost as if someone took the time to edit the video.

The Student Council of the Hopes Peak were shown brutally killing each other off while a male figure stood there in silence watching everything go down. His body was slender, his hair was insanely long, and he wore a suit that seemed a tad bit tight on him.

But no, I couldn't see his eyes. No matter how many times I played the video back, Nagito nor I couldn't identify this person.

So many questions ran through my head. I was so overwhelmed that I suddenly stood up from my seat. I went to grab my school bag but my hand was trembling terribly. Nagito grabbed my wrist and shook me gently - forcing me to focus my attention on him.

He reassured me and told me not to panic.

"B-But t-this is b-bad..." I said shakily.

Nagito then releases his grip and stares coldly out the classroom window.

"We should pass by the reserve course building"

"H-Huh? Why?" I asked.

"I need to verify something."

Without questioning further, I followed Nagito out the classroom and ultimately out the main course building. Together we walked until we came towards the outside of the reserve building.

Nagito narrows his brows, and I found myself holding gently onto Nagito's school uniform jacket as we stood outside an angry crowd of reserve course students.

This was a protest.

"Just as a thought..." Nagito said in a low tone.

I looked at him questioningly.

"Let's get somewhere safe before we really talk about this. You're pretty shaken up Ena...here, I'll take you home."

I nodded my head slowly while still feeling quite shaken up. My mind couldn't comprehend everything that was happening at once. With the school, Hajime still missing, and the murders that I just witnessed.

But a part of me knew that this was just the beginning. The beginning of something big, awful, and tragic...
