Bucky paced outside the hospital room as he waited for news on Madeleine. Since first meeting her, he'd taken her under his wing so to speak. Admittedly, he'd also fallen for her; but he didn't plan on telling her that anytime soon.
Madeleine's screams eventually died down and the sound of crying filled the air.
A nurse made her way towards him and said, "Sir, you can come see, if you wish."
Bucky nodded and followed the nurse to Madeleine's bed.
Madeleine smiled at him and said, "Meet Evelyn Margaret."
Bucky pulled up a chair and sat next to the bed. "She's beautiful, Maddi." He let out a sigh. To hell with it. He was going to tell her. "Madeleine, I need to tell you something."
Madeleine looked at him quizzically. "What is it?"
"I know it's only been about a year for you since your husband's death, but I like you. Hell, I might even go so far to say I'm in love with you. But if you're not ready, I understand."
She was silent for a few moments. "Buck, I like you too, but I'm certainly not ready to walk down the aisle again. Can we perhaps take things slow? At least until Evelyn is a little older?"
He nodded. "We can take it as slow as you want."
Madeleine stroked her daughter's head and leaned closer to Bucky.
Bucky kissed the top of Madeleine's head.
She turned to him and the two shared a kiss, unknowingly sealing their fate.
