Neville Longbottom was highly confused when on Christmas day after lunch he walked into the Gryffindor First Year Boys' Dormitory to an open window and his bed hangings slightly askance. He pulled out his wand and hesitantly pulled the fabric apart only to wonder what if he was seeing was really there. The slightly chubby boy cast every detection spell his Grandmother had instilled in him at the beautifully wrapped Royal Purple and Alice Blue present on his bed. Finding nothing amiss he hesitantly and carefully opened the letter on top which had his name written in calligraphy, a beautiful Amethyst ink having been used.

Dear Neville,

I do hope I am allowed to call you that and not Heir Longbottom, though if such a friendly calling is unpleasant to you... Well, I supposed all I can do is hope you're okay with it.

I am terrified of writing this to you in all honesty. So, much to my shame, I will only be giving you the name 'Suiren' to know me as. I will tell you that I am no older than a Third Year, but that's still three years of four houses to search through so hopefully I may stay hidden until a time I can dredge up some of the Legendary Gryffindor Courage and tell you my real name.

Well, ignoring my nervous word vomit above,

Happy Christmas Neville!

I write to you because, if I'm honest, I find myself interested in you. With your silent courage, kind soul, intelligent mind, beautiful personality, breathtaking smile, and of course your heart-warming love of Herbology. You have only recently started school, this I am aware of... but at the same time, I cannot help but feel in my very soul that we could be wonderful friends, and possibly even more.

I do hope you will allow me to continue this... interesting course of possible friendship. Due to some help from some advisors, both wizard and goblin, who are helping me with this, I also give you an oath upon my life and magic.

I, The name is illegible to Neville, much to his consternation, Do hereby swear on my life and magic that I will never lie to Neville Frank Longbottom unless it is to save a life. I will in no way, shape, or form ever attempt to harm Neville Frank Longbottom. I swear that I will never attempt to use or abuse Neville Frank Longbottom. Should I ever hurt Neville Frank Longbottom with intention, let my magic kill me where I stand. As I Say, So I Swear, So Mote It Be.

(Take this to Filius Flitwick if you do not believe the oath to hold. I will never hold such a thing against you, protect yourself first!)

With that said, within the present attached to this letter are a few books I believe you may enjoy. I may not enjoy Herbology as much as you, but it is something I was raised on and I do love some of its intricacies. More specifically, the Victorian Flower Language of old, otherwise known as Floriography. I do hope many of our interactions to come may be through the long... bygone language.

However with that hope came the risk of misinterpretation, as such I have made the unilateral decision to send you the books by which I will choose my flowers. These books are called 'FLORIOGRAPHY, An Illustrated Guide to the Victorian Language of Flowers' by Jessica Roux. As well as 'The COMPLETE LANGUAGE of FLOWERS, A Definitive and Illustrated History' by S. Theresa Dietz.

Also included in the package are two flowers. I request that you wear one to one of the meals on the first day back, seeing as I may or may not be within Hogwarts walls at current time. Should you wear the Goldenrod, otherwise known as Solidago, with its meanings of Encouragement, Good Luck, and Success, among others, I will assume you agree to allow me to continue with this idea. Should you wear the Mock Orange, otherwise known as Philadelphus, with its meaning of uncertainty among others, I will assume you wish me to stop and will send nothing more to you.
