*the day of the funeral, again*
A chill ran down his sleep engulfed form making his eyes shoot wide open being instantly on guard. 'Nightmares.' he taught. 'Wish you were here father.' He threw the rest of the covers off of himself giving up on any more sleep tonight and stood up of the bed running his fingers through his hair.
The silver shine of the moon illuminating his body ever so slightly exposing the sculpted muscles flexing as he stretched out before throwing on a pair of joggers and a semi worn T-shirt. Deciding it is as good of a time as any to unload the energy with a long morning run. Or rather midnight run.
Before he left the house his beta to be Cody ran up to the house with a grin.
"Couldn't sleep again." Cody stated rather than asked. "Let's go mate." He grinned running in his sport. Off they sped into the thick forest.
They came to a halt at a field of poppies where Mateos mind wondered in circles. His hand pinched one of the flowers staring at it deep in taught.
"You're thinking about her again" he shook his head in a mocking disapproval slightly panting. "You can go find her you know. It wouldn't even be that hard, I don't think." He said scratching the back of his neck. "All you got to do is hire one of the hunters to track her down. Not the best option considering ... Hunter and all, but ..." his voice halted as Mateo spoke again in defeated tone.
"Let's just train." He let go of the delicate flower letting it be lost within the field of poppies.
They swiftly turned into their wolves and started sparring for hours until the sun rose from the ground reminding them of the time. They both ran to the pack house and prepped for the burial and Mateos Alpha initiation.
The preparation took less than he was expecting. The grey suit and white shirt were readily pressed hanging on his door with a note written: 'Whenever you're ready my boy' a little smile crept up his lips at the sweet simple note from his mother. They didn't have the easiest relationship but she always made him feel loved even as an adult, even now as he was about to take over his fathers pack. Mateo got changed and styled his hair brushing it sleekly back.
He looked ready.
But the empty space in his chest grew bigger. Ever since his father passed the need for something he couldn't describe grew stronger. His mind kept wondering that night and every time landing back thinking of that girl. He made the mistake of letting her go years back. His wolf side could never understand the thinking of this human. Why would one not want to protect the person who was made for him.
Ever since that day his wolf was as dormant as he could be only taking slight interest in life during full moons and training. But that has changed since yesterday. Mateo felt a stir inside him a change, maybe some hope. Hope that she might be here. Hope that she came willingly to seek him. Hope that the pull he felt she felt it too. But all that was hope. He has not set his eyes on her yet. It could simply be a similar scent or his imagination playing tricks during his most vulnerable time.
He shook these thoughts off walking out towards the cemetery. The burial was quick. Soon after all the guests started to leave, leaving only alphas wife and his kids at his grave. The day was too nice for a funeral with the sun shining high and birds chirping in between the trees.
He could almost feel his father speaking to him but out of reach unable to heart even with the wolf senses. His mother used to say at every funeral if you can sense the spirit think of the strongest memory of them and they might just appear for a last goodbye. Remembering this he closed his eyes as he held one arm around his mother and the other around his youngest sister crying into his suit jacket and taught of the strongest memory of his fallen father. Opening his eyes slowly and holding his breath. He exhaled holding on to the two women but nothing was different.
The birds still chirped. The sun was still shining and the feeling of his dad was just a feeling he wished was true. A while later he led the family back home and began the preparation for his alpha initiation happening tonight after sundown.
With a groan he fell back onto his bed falling asleep.
The fluorescent lights were blinding him as he roamed hall after hall in search for one person. The smell of hospitals was never pleasant. The blood and cleaning agent mixed with death, pain and sweat of the working staff. Hoping she'll be here as the alternative ... his mind couldn't think of right now. It was not an option. She should change, she should heal. His mind chanted over and over.
Until his feet stoped in front of the half glass door. Nurses and doctors piling in and out. Shouting over each other with names of procedures his mind did not comprehend as a breathing tube was being inserted into her mouth and the monitors attached to her frail body flatlining. Machines continuous beep hurting his ears as his wolf howled inside of him.
His heart plunged like a stone into the ocean.
With a heavy breath he woke up his heart feeling heavy once again. A few minutes later his future betas message read. 'I felt that one. You okay bud?' Somehow he always felt if something bothered him even before being chosen for the beta of the pack position. Their bond has been strong. Ever since his family joined the pack when they were only little pups.
'I'm fine, prep for the ceremony. Meet you there.' Mateo texted back.
The new set of clothes was neatly folded on his desk this time without any sign of a note. With another sigh he got changed and rushed out to join the party feeling a pinch of hope remaining within him.
As he got closer every supernatural bowed their heads in submission and respect. After all it is his land they are on and especially werewolf's are very territorial. The only species that perhaps could be even more are the Vampires. As Mateo got closer his eyes drifted to the food stands unknowingly following the dark brown long haired person. He felt at peace just looking at her from the distance.
"It can't be." He whispered in disbelief as she turned feeling his eyes on her. Their eyes met. It was. His jaw could have dropped to the floor at how beautiful she was. Even more than what he remembered her to be. Although their first meeting was unfortunate.
Mateos wolf side was desperately trying to get out. Forcefully bringing itself through the barrier fighting for control. She was there. The same girl that he saved all these years ago. He was right it was her scent on the flowers now he could tell. The sweet aroma of the wild wind and flowers.
He felt Seths hand pull at his shoulder and unwillingly he broke the eye contact. "Hey mate its time." Mateo looked behind his friend to look for her again but she was nowhere to be found, again. Although her scent lingered there.
"She was here." He almost whispered in disbelief.
"Who was?" Seth asked confused. With realisation he spoke again "Oh your lady from that night? Where is she? Maybe shed like to join us if shell be the future pair to you." He looked around but Mateo stayed silent. He shook his head and playfully punched Seth on his arm.
"Forget it." They both walked deeper into the woods finding people already gathering here and there.

A/N:
1) Are the chapters too long? Would half the length be better? I feel like once I start to write there's no end and I end up writing couple of chapters at one time and have to split or else it'll end up with a 10,000 words in one post.
2) How was it seeing the day from his and her perspective? Did it make more sense or should it only be following the one character throughout.
3) Any pointers you might have please leave a comment!
