MASHAWN POV

I stared at Kailyn attentively as she confessed that she wanted to be my girl and tried to tell myself that she didn't mean it in the way that she obviously did. "Kailyn don't play with me" I warned "I don't wanna hurt you."

"Who says you even will? You never know, maybe I could be the stability that you're lacking in your life." she suggested.

"Kailyn, I care about you, you're one of the few women I know who I actually give a damn about and I don't wanna risk taking that step and making us a couple and then I end up hurting you. I can't risk losing you Kay." I responded as I got up from the couch. I just wanted to leave the office because I knew where this was gonna go: Kailyn says convincing words and makes me think I won't actually fuck up so I try being with her, then I start getting weak like normal and start fucking with bitches, and then I end up losing her all together.

Kailyn stood up too and looked me back in my eye "Mashawn I'm not saying I want to move in with you, or have your kids, or even make you love me, I just want to give you a chance at happiness. A chance to see there's more to life than going out every night and flirting with every girl you see. I know it's scary to think that your throwing away your livelihood, but think of it like this, I want to show you something you've never seen before and I promise it's better than any bitch you fuck at a club."

I sighed and almost instantly kissed her. It wasn't a rough and fast kiss like I normally gave her, but instead it was a sweet, calm kiss you give the person you care about. I wanted that kiss to actually mean something to her because if I could help it, it would be the last one she'd get till she got rid of this fantasy of us being together. "I'm sorry Kailyn." I whisper as our lips finally parted and I began walking towards the door.

"Mashawn." she called out as I prepared to walk out the door.I turned around to see the hurt in her eyes and the yearning expression on her face. I fought every temptation I had to stay and give us a shot, and was finally able to walk out the door hoping to put today behind me.

MARVIN POV

"How do you think this looks?" Nina asked as she held up a powder blue onesie that said "The Ladie's Love Me". I just nodded my head as she put the onesie in the basket with the dozens of other clothes she had prepared to buy for the baby. After I left Mikayla, I really didn't wanna be around anybody but I had already promised Nina that we would go shopping for the baby. "What's wrong with you?" she finally asked putting a hand on her hip.

"Nothing. Is there anything else you want my opinion on or can we go?" I replied irritably.

"Well I'd hope that you would have your own ideas considering this is YOUR baby too." Nina answered with a roll of the eyes.

"It don't even matter to me and plus how you gone buy clothes but we don't even know what the sex of the baby is?" I asked.

"Well I like to be prepared." Nina answered as she smirked and began walking to the other side of the store. I walked over to the large windows in the front of the store and just began to watch the people and cars in front of me. From all the faces I saw, everyone was smiling and seemed to be happy and I just wished that I could be like that. I haven't been happy since the night I proposed to Mikayla and it seems everyday since then has been getting gradually worse. I tried to make myself happy about the baby but I just couldn't. I just wished that it's mom woulda been Mikayla but it's not. It's mother was Nina and don't get me wrong I'm sure she's gone make one hell of a mother, it's just I wish this all would have turned out differently for not just me but both of us. When Nina told her girlfriend Angie about what happened, she kicked Nina out and I ended up getting her an apartment out of sympathy. We really don't talk unless it's about the baby and only really see each other when we going shopping or to the Doctor.

"You sure you ok?" a voice from behind asked. I turned around to see Nina holding multiple bags of clothes.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I lied as I looked back out the window.

"Well that's good, I wouldn't expect you to be taking Mikayla out on a date so well." she complimented as she started walking out the door. I quickly looked out the window again and saw Mikayla and some nigga being seated at a table at the restaurant across the street. I could feel myself turning red and speedily walked across the street and to the table that Mikayla was sitting at.

"What's going on over here?" I asked as I stared at the dude sitting across from Mikayla. He was darkskin, short, black hair, and a big white smile.

"Awe shit you Marvin Davis! Bruhh I'm a huge fan!" the guy announced in his strong southern accent as he stood up expecting a friendly handshake but was met with a cold angry stare.

"What are you doing here Marvin?" Mikayla asked angrily.

"I could ask you the same exact thing." I replied coldly.

"Well if this a bad time I could just go." the guy suggested as he stood there awkwardly watching us stare at each other.

"No Gerald, you're fine. Don't mind him, he was just leaving." she retorted as she motioned for me to go.

"No Gerald, you can go." I argued staring back at him.

Gerald stood there confused to Mikayla suggested "Let's go Gerald, people obviously don't know when they're not wanted." and then she got up and they both were preparing to head for the exit with me following behind.

"So this the reason why you don't wanna make it work huh? Cause you out here fucking with this country bumpkin that's pretty damn pathetic!" I yelled as we made our way out of the restaurant.

"Hey dude I don't know what happened with you too, but I'm gone need you to not disrespect me." Gerald finally said.

"And nigga what the fuck you gone do if I don't?" I asked as walked up to him and sized him up. I was just waiting on the chance to lay somebody out and he looked like the perfect candidate.

"MARVIN GO HOME!" Mikayla yelled just as I was getting ready to hit Gerald. I looked up at her and I could see the seriousness and the hurt in her eyes. I reluctantly backed away from Gerald and walked to my car and slammed the door shut.

"What was that all about?" Nina asked.

"Shut up." I barked and then began to drive her back home.
