Finally, after what seemed like years of waiting anxiously even though it had been only one day, the big day arrived.Tuesday.
We planned to set off by noon, right before lunch, because Jasper had some more work to do right before going. I utilized this extra time to pack some more stuff I might need - yeah, even more than I've already packed - , including my drawing book and a silver chain with a star locket that I usually wore for long trips and used as a lucky charm. I know, silly, but this gives me both a sense of security as well as nostalgia because it's my mom's. I always kept it in my hands whenever I felt uncomfortable or worried.
This was also going to be quite a longer trip than I expected, because the said hotel is some miles away. Since we're setting off before lunchtime, we may need to stop at a restaurant for lunch and that sounded even more tiring because I was hoping to nap in the car during the entire travel. I'd woken up quite early today. I didn't feel like eating anything at all, though obviously, Jasper would end up forcing me to eat at least a packet of French fries.
"June, you can't keep stalling. Just get ready already," Jasper called out from near the table. And there he was, that weird creature, who'd finished his entire packing in just one night and had finished dressing up by now too. He didn't have much more stuff than I did but his bag looked quite heavy too, especially with all the things that he might need for doing his office work - the laptop, various documents, and so on.
"I'm not stalling. There's a lot more time left", I looked at my watch and shrugged, "It's only ten."
"So what? You could've finished it by yesterday but you chose to be lazy," He said. I narrowed my eyes but chose to not reply, then began scrolling on my phone. My new phone, actually. Before going, I decided to call dad and confirm everything just once again. I mean, I got to be careful about the little doubt that Jasper might not be tricking me with a lie yet again. Not that he will ever do that again, but still.
The phone rang a few times before dad answered it with a tired but happy sigh, "Hello June, how are you?"
"I'm great, dad. What about you?"
"Quite alright, I guess. Have you finished packing yet?"
"Um...almost?"
It's not like dad can see you from there, June, you could've just said that you'd finished, dumbass.
He chuckled in amusement, "You're being lazy, aren't you?"
"No, dad," I groaned as I spoke, "I'll finish it up soon. Just give me some time."
"Alright. Anyways, what else? How are the twins doing?"
I giggled at that. Dad was so tired of having to call each of them 'Karly and Klaus' always that he'd fixed himself upon calling them 'the twins'. Well, even I refer to them that way most of the time, so yeah. Much easier than calling out each of them each time.
"They're all fine. Oh but - guess what, dad? We have a new friend in our group now. His name's Doritos - uh, nevermind, I mean Dorian Nicholas."
It was then that I suddenly remembered how a guy who looked like Dorian was said to be there in the mall explosion years ago, by both Jasper as well as the doctor I'd met some days ago. Maybe dad might remember him too?
"Nice name," he cooed at my reference to Dorian as Doritos, "Is he new?"
"Not actually, he just changed classes for some reason. He'd been here since fifth grade, I think," I said, remembering what Karly had told me about him after talking more with him. She also mentioned that he was in Trent's class before, but changed afterwards. Well - who wouldn't want to change from that asshole's class? He bullies any kid that seems even slightly weaker compared to him. He rarely messes with girls and guys who have strong connections at school and are into athletics and sports - like Jia, one of my old lab partners and a pretty nice friend of ours even though not a close one. She has lots of connections with seniors at school, even the ones who left school, and such people scare Trent away.
