Cyrus and Eleanor manage to drag themselves downstairs and into the car. She couldn't keep her eyes open in the living room, because thats where she found Liam. Right in the corner by their TV.
Getting into the car was worse than anything else, aside from the heartache. It smelled exactly like him. Like cold Friday afternoons and car refreshers. Liam never actually owned a car refresher, but he always seemed to smell like one.
"Oh god." She says, her eyes rolling back in her head, "It smells exactly like him."
Cyrus silently agrees and reaches for the radio, trying to ease his mind off of it. The auto generated voice connects to the bluetooth speakers.
"Connecting to Liam's iPhone." The Siri voice exclaims. Eleanor sobs out loud. Cyrus fidgets with the car as quickly as possible, trying to turn it off, when his favorite song starts playing. It was the song that was playing when he realized he was in love with Liam.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP." He cries out, driving his fists into the car as hard and as fast as he can. His knuckles become raw and bloody as the metal pierces his hands. His emotional stability completely vanished as he's forced into another episode. Once Eleanor realizes whats going on, she tries to calm him down.
"Cyrus its okay. Its okay Cyrus," She reassures him, "Its gonna be okay, you just have to calm down." She pulls him off of the radio, "Your hands are all bloody."
He continues to scream and cry into his hands. It truly was something nobody would ever wish to see in their entire life, but Eleanor has seen much, MUCH more traumatizing things.
He holds onto her, like a child would its own mother. Eleanor comforted him the best she could, without breaking herself. They stayed like that, until they both realized how late it had gotten. Neither wanted to be late to the funeral, so they had two options. Either don't go and continue to loathe in self pity, or pull themselves together and continue on with their lives.
The answer was clear to both of them, so they buckle up their seatbelts and drive into the sunlight for the first time in three weeks.
