i didn't realise i'd wandered too far. my friend and i were playing hide and seek in the fields behind her house. she lived an hours way away from me, so i made sure to stay by the edge of her property, hiding low in the daffodils and holding my breath as she counted to fifty.
but i'd been losing the last few rounds; she always seemed to find me, and i hated it. so i went deeper into the parts of the woods we weren't allowed to enter.
i saw him kiss her, and then i watched as he tied her hands behind her back, blindfolded her eyes with the scarf she'd wrapped around her neck. she giggled, leaned into his warmth whilst he pressed feverish kisses to her skin, but his eyes were open and unwavering the entire time. he tightened the blindfold around her eyes, but it fell across her whole face.
i think that's why i didn't see her expression, couldn't see what face she made when he pushed her into the water, and the raging river swallowed her whole.
and then he turned to me, watched through the lashes that hung low over his emerald eyes. i stared back, and he smiles. crouched down and extended a hand: "hello. i'm saeran."
