When they had gotten the Twinkie out of the mud, they immediately started driving to Freedman's Church. Once they reached the church, Lila realized that she had forgotten something when speaking with Cheryl. A deadline.
"You guys go in, I need to call Cheryl." Lila assured them. They all nodded their heads, accepting her action before walking into the church.
Lila checked her contacts on her phone to see she still had Cheryl's house phone number in her contacts after all that time. She clicked Cheryl's contact, soon pressing the call button when she placed the phone to her ear.
"Hello?"
"Hi Cheryl, it's me." Lila greeted her. "I was wondering whether or not you wanted me to drop off the truck at a certain time."
"Oh no, sweetheart. I barely drive it. You can keep it for a while until you can return it."
"Oh my goodness." Lila gasped happily, glad she had time. "Thank you so much."
"No problem honey, just don't scratch my car or I'll turn you into my next casserole."
Lila laughed nervously at the woman's joke, hoping it was a joke. "Alright, I promise. Thank you again! Bye!"
"Bye!"
Lila hung up the call before heading into the church where her friends were. Lila walked into the ancient building to see the group, standing around looking defeated.
"Did I miss something?" Lila asked, seeing their saddened facial expressions. They didn't answer her, making her put the puzzle pieces together on her own. She guessed that they couldn't find the cross anywhere in the church. That was when an idea popped into her head. "Guys. You know the telescope we found. Denmark probably wouldn't have gave us that for nothing. Pope, see if you can see anything through it."
Pope liked her thinking, finding the idea to be magnificent. He pulled the scope out of his coat pocket, looking around the church with the scopes lens influencing his eye. He looked around the building until he paused for a moment. That implied that he found something.
"Up there." Pope pointed, his finger pointing towards the beams that were holding up the old church.
Lila noticed the cross-like shaped structure that the beams had before she noticed Pope climbing up the walls of the church. She stared at the scene, wide-eyed at the fact that Pope, the smarter one in the group, had came up with the idea. "Pope, you're not Tarzan! Get down! This church is probably older than Denmark himself. Get down."
Pope ignored Lila's words, continuing to climb towards the structure until he got to the top. He started to bang onto the different cross-shaped structures, checking for gold until he found the right structure with the cross.
"Pope, not to rain on your parade, but there's a giant wasps nest above you." Lila informed him. He lifted his head up, checking to see if she was joking to see the bugs swarming above him. "And if I get stung, I'll murder you."
