Violet stood face to face with the girl before her. So far she had planned to steal something, definitely discarding Vander's advice of laying low that she had been given just twenty four hours ago. She had gone somewhere.
In fact, she decided to scale that same roof that contained the aftermath of the explosion to be specific.
Now she had just carried this girl with blue hair that was the same age as her across several roof tops in a leaps and bounds as she had a look that screamed 'this is the end' each time. But Vi was quick on her feet. Give her the right or wrong circumstances she would find a way.
The blue haired girl wobbled a little as she stood on her two feet and Violet held her hand to try and steady her. "I got you." She said.
The girl panted. "You're fast. And brave." She said.
Vi had no clue what to make of that last compliment at all. So she just ran with it, flashing that same proud look she would give Vander and her siblings. "You were brave too. Though that first squeal you yelped when I jumped from one roof to the next was funny." She snickered.
The girl had an embarrassed look on her face. "I was not squealing!" She insisted and upon further examination Vi noticed she had a gap between her front teeth.
Vi calmed down. "Alright alright. My name's Vi." She said.
The blue haired girl softened and gave a smile. "My name's Caitlyn."
Something in Vi made her heart race. Her eyes widened as she stared into hers. They were bright blue. As bright as the Topside Piltovian sky. She had never seen such bright eyes in her life.
Caitlyn let out a giggle and Violet swore she wanted to hear that sound over and over again. It was so soft and sweet. Like a, "Cupcake."
"What?" Caitlyn tipped her head in that manner of a confused dog.
"I'll call you Cupcake." Vi said with a grin.
"My name is Caitlyn." The blue haired girl raised a brow.
"Your laugh is sweet like a cupcake." Vi pointed out.
Now it was Caitlyn's turn to be stunned into silence.
"Or Cupcait." Vi joked.
Cait blinked. "Cupcake."
They laughed. "I like you." Vi stated suddenly.
Caitlyn stood there. "We just met."
"Misfits can like people cupcake." Vi pointed out with a shrug of her shoulders.
"I'm a misfit too I suppose," the girl shrugged and gently held her hand; soft fingers against rough bandaged ones. "Because I like you too."
"We just met," Vi echoed Caitlyn's statement.
"You seem good. I can tell." Cait encouraged with a smile, showing her tooth gap.
Good grief Vi thought she would see that image in her sleep tonight. Maybe even many nights after this one and several nights after those. And hoped it would never be forgotten.
She stared at the sky. Sun was going down. "Shit I gotta get home!" She muttered. "Hold on tight cupcake, we're going down." Vi picked the girl up bridal style, she couldn't have weighed more than Powder but was definitely less than Claggor and even Mylo.
"My house isn't far." Cait said as Vi began her usual routine of jumping roofs. "It's a big one with a gate."
"Shouldn't be hard." Vi said as she kept her eyes peeled. Big with a gate. Big with a gate.
Her eyes caught it and soon after what Cait could describe as bizarre gymnastics, they were on the ground and Vi gently placed her on her feet.
"Alas, the Undercitizen and Piltovian part ways." Vi said as she turned to bolt before anyone saw her.
"Wait! Will I see you again?" Cait asked. What prompted that? Who knows. But Cait knew Vi was good. She knew that for a fact. Somewhere in there was someone...someone kind.
"Maybe." Vi winked and raced off. "See you around Cupcake!" She hollered over her shoulder before being gone from view.
Caitlyn smiled to herself as she stood there and heard her mother's footsteps.
