Reminder that '~' indicated the POV change from Freddy to Olive

"What's she doing? I can't see."
"Move out of my damn way!"
"Shut up, you'll get us caught!"
"Shh! She's reading."
"Reading?" Three voices echoed in surprise. I nodded my head.
"It appears she is reading manuals."
"On us?"
"No, on our sisters." Roxanne's nose scrunched with her sarcastic reply. "Who else would it be, Chica?"
"Girls! Play nice! Monty, feel free to step in." I hissed.
"Sorry, babe. It's funny to watch them arguing." I tutted but didn't respond, instead pressing my face up to the cracked open door to watch the dark haired woman at the desk. Her head was bobbing in time to some music that was coming from her headphones as she steadily turned the pages in front of her. Her back was turned, so we couldn't see the face she was making. I tried to picture what she looked like with a concentration face. Of course, I had seen her face many times around the building. But never up close. As I drifted into thoughts about why she kept such distance, a sharp smack came to the back of my head.
"Ow!"
"Freddy! She's packing up, moron!" Roxy grabbed my arm and pulled me away from the door, her metal arms carrying my weight almost effortlessly. "And don't forget to-"
"Yes, I know." There was a squeezing feeling in my chest as my limbs quickly turned cold and my ears twitched uncomfortably. Back to being an animatronic.
"She's coming!" Chica squealed. We had gotten into a semi-natural position in the atrium as the new mechanic walked in. Turns out, observing someone inconspicuously is very difficult when you're a seven foot tall glam rock animatronic.
"See you lot tonight, I suppose." Once she was out of the building, Chica gasped.
"She spoke to us!"
"Let's hope she's more fun to play with than that other guy."
"Let's hope she's just as pretty up close, too." I hit Montgomery on the shoulder, giving him a stern look. Even though I secretly wondered the same thing. It was totally inappropriate to think of a coworker in such a way. Plus, she was a real human. I was just a bad imitation.
"Let's be sure to make her job as easy as we can. After all, she's already put in such hard work for us." The others swiftly agreed, though I knew they'd somehow end up doing the opposite.

The machine didn't seem so happy to sign me in tonight. One of the daytime mechanics had told me that the four animatronics were waiting in the repair room already.
"Hi guys." I announced my presence, though I wasn't sure why. They were just robots, right? So why did they all look up expectantly as I entered. "Uh... I'm Olive. You'll probably hear me get called Ollie. And Sean insists on calling me Liv for some reason."
"Hi Ollie!" I jumped as a big metal chicken suddenly invaded my space, putting us face to face. "I'm Chica! Can we be best friends?" I simply stared at the animatronic, unsure of what to do about the imposing figure looming over me. Despite being a girly and bubbly character, I was more than aware of how huge all four of them were, especially compared to my barely 5'6 frame.
"You're scaring her, idiot!" Roxanne bared her teeth. "Plus, she already knows who you are. And she already knows that I'm her favourite!" Suddenly, a heavy arm draped across my shoulders, causing me to tense up.
"No way. I bet you prefer someone with a bit more suave. Don't you, baby?" Not knowing how to respond to the oddly flirty alligator, I simply ducked under his arm and pressed my back against the wall, one hand gently tugging at my hair. Three metallic clangs sounded as Freddy hit each of them on the back.
"You're scaring the poor girl!" He scolded, eyebrows furrowed. But when he turned to me, his expression changed to one of warm delight as he slowly approached. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Olive. Apologies about the others. They get over excited. We're looking forward to having you as our new mechanic." For some reason, Freddy knew exactly what to say to melt the tension from my shoulders effortlessly. A small smile appeared on my face. The bear's ears wiggled.
"Y-yes. So I, uh, need to shut you off and check you over for repairs now." Chica held a small device out in front of her.
"Use this! It scans us and tells you what to do!"
"Thank you..." I gingerly stepped closer and took the tablet.
"Shutting us off is as easy as pressing the button on the back of our necks." Monty added, turning and pointing. I quickly reached up, flicked open the hatch, and pressed the button firmly. He made a whirring noise as his arms dropped into a neutral position.
"Huh. That was easy." Roxanne offered herself up next, probably eager to get it over with so she could go back to roaming around. I always saw her chasing cleaning bots around on the cameras or racing against the other S.T.A.F.F bots. Then was Chica, then was Freddy. Just before I pressed the button, he asked.
"Are you nervous?"
"A little."
Don't worry. I'm sure you'll do a great job, superstar!" Without a coherent response forming, I just pressed the button and listened for the telltale whir. Why did being called superstar feel so oddly comforting?
The tablet gave me all the information I needed. Which wasn't actually a lot. They just needed a couple of screws tightened here and there, a couple of wire adjustments from rowdy kids knocking into them too hard. It was child's play. Pun intended. Once I finished tightening a screw in Freddy's ear, see-sawing somewhat precariously on the chair from the office, I realised they'd never told me how to switch them back on again. Wobbling dangerously as I got down from the chair - I'd have to find some sort of stepladder for tomorrow - I tried my hardest to remember what the manuals said. But a quick check of the cards in my pocket showed that it wasn't covered. Maybe you just had to press the same button again?
"How did it go, Olive?"
"Oh, phew. It was just the same button to turn you back on."
"I'm so sorry." Freddy apologised way too sincerely, a deep frown on his face. "I should have told you that."
"It's okay dude. I figured it out."
"Way to go superstar." I quickly turned away to switch the other three back on. Why was I feeling embarrassed? Was I just in need of some praise? Maybe I'd ask Alex to pat my head later and tell me 'who's a good mechanic? Who wants a coffee? You want a coffee?' That outta fill my affection quota for a while. Plus, Alex would probably love it.
"You did a good job on my arm, I guess." Roxanne huffed as she bent and straightened her elbow slowly.
"How did the bolt get that broken?"
"Definitely not from trying out a new and dangerous move on the racecourse." I raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
"You fixed my nails! Yes!" Chica cheered.
"Welp, you guys are free to roam around now. Y'know. Do what you usually do. I'll go back to doing my security jobs and I'll take the tablet with me so I'll know if something happens. Behave yourselves. Especially those planning on racing, not to name any names."
"Ugh, fine!" Roxy stormed out, Chica following behind her, talking at a hundred miles an hour. Was she always so energetic?
"And where can I find you later tonight?" Monty flicked his glasses down, winking dramatically at me.
"Everywhere." I whispered, wiggling my fingers to add to the effect. "But at the same time... Nowhere..." Keeping my eyes wide and my expression flat, I slowly backed out of the room.
