As Ollie left the room, I sighed wistfully.
"Oh, I see it, for sure. Our boy's down tremendously bad." Monty shook his head.
"What the fuck does that even mean?" Roxy wrinkled her nose at him.
"I dunno, something about crushing on someone? Some teens told me about it the other day."
"Well, I see it too." Chica clasped her hands together. "Young love!"
"What are you talking about?"
"Don't get so defensive, baby. We're just saying that only a man with some strong feelings looks at a lady like that."
"Like what?" I snapped.
"With such a foolish love-struck look." Roxy and Monty raised their brows at each other knowingly.
"N-no I don't!"
"You look stunning!" Chica copied me, exaggerating completely as she simpered over Roxy, running her fingers through the wolf's untamable locks. "Just like a princess! I could kiss you right now! Mwah, mwah!" Roxy batted the other girl away, smiling at her antics.
"I did not want to kiss her!"
"Mm, sure. Just like how you weren't totally checking her out." Monty propped his glasses on top of his head so that I could definitely see the withering look he was giving me. "Just like how you weren't looking down her top."
"I don't like what you're implying, Monty. I was trying not to be improper or creepy-"
"We didn't think you were being either of those things. You may have the body of a bear, but you have the heart of a man-"
"And the di-"
"It's only natural to be... interested." Chica explained, tactfully cutting off Monty's crude remark. Anger bubbled in my chest.
"I'm not interested in anything! Or anyone!"
"Buddy, we all know you like Ollie. There's no need to keep denying it so hard." Roxy shrugged.
"I. Do. Not. Like. Olive."
"No, you love her." Monty shrugged nonchalantly. "Listen, it'll be a little awkward unless we reveal our human forms to her, but we can make it work!"
"You'll be doing nothing of the sort!" I was trying not to shout, but my voice rose regardless. "I don't have romantic feelings for Ollie, and nobody is showing her anything!"
"If you don't have a crush on her, how can you explain being jealous whenever anyone else touches her?"
"Or the dreamy look you get when you think about her?"
"Or the dumb way you look at her when she's actually here?"
"Or the way you blush pretty much every time you two interact?"
"Or-"
"Enough!" The three of them quickly closed their mouths, staring at me expectantly. How could I explain all of those things? The short answer: I couldn't. Giving them one last glare for good measure, I stormed out of the room, taking deep breaths as I made my way to my green room.
I flopped down on my sofa, bringing my little purple plushie to my chest as I squeezed it tight. They made some good points. I was always happy around Ollie, and there was always a twisting feeling when she was near, like all of my wires had been tied into knots. I always wanted to be around her, and every moment we spent together was bliss. Each time we touched, it felt like I'd explode. My thoughts wandered back to the way she looked in that dress, then they wandered over to the memory of her legs wrapped around my waist as she fixed my ear, then they wandered a little further. As my motors sped up, realisation hit me like a truck.
