"Mom?" Why isn't she answering me? I'm right here.
"Mom?" I say again, I'm getting more annoyed. We've been in this car for two hours now.
I was just supposed to get Kate her present.
"Mom—" I get cut off by my mom. "What!" She yelled, taking her eyes off the road.Terror is all I felt. The light grew brighter from behind her. "MOM!" I screamed as the truck hit her side of the car.
Everything moved in slow motion. As the car rolled and the glass flew, my hair was in my face. The sounds of the car hitting the ground as it tumbled down a steep hill.
I felt the car smash into something hard, then it went black.
I woke up in a panic. My body trembles. This can't be real, not again. When I realized I was in my room and I wasn't 12 anymore. I start to calm down.
I wipe the tears that have fallen as I try to control my breathing.
The room is still dark, and the only light coming through is the moonlight that is peeking through the curtain.
I sit up, checking the time. I read 3:48 a.m.
I groaned as I slipped out of bed and head down the stairs. I quietly opened up the fridge, pulling out the strawberries.
I walked outside, looking up at the beautiful night sky. I'm looking for my favorite star, Hercules.
'My dear Starlight.' I could almost hear her say it through the December breeze. "What are you doing at 3 in the morning?" Ezra's voice was deeper. I turn to face him.
His hair is messy and his eyes are narrowed. His arms are crossed, trying to keep himself warm. He looks like a grumpy teddy bear.
Dumb ass. You should have put a jacket on.
"Looking at the stars" I say. "Hmm." He hummed, despite the distance between us. "My mom and I used to sit and look at the stars when I was little." I paused.
The moon is making him look like he is supposed to be a god.
"She said when I was a baby, the only way I would fall asleep was if I was under the star. They just bring me a sense of peace, you know?" He looked up at the stars, then back at me, grinning ear to ear. "I guess so." He whispered.
I point up. "Right there is Hercules. And that one is the Vega star, or it's called the Harp star." I looked over to see if his listing.
He is. No one ever actually listens.
His head turned to the stars. His dimples showed.
"The Vega is the fifth-shiniest star in the sky." I continue."When's your birthday?" I ask. He looks confused. "You'll see; just tell me." He lets out a sigh. "March 23rd." I smile.
I look into the sky, looking for Aries. "There it is." I point to it. "What do you mean?" He asked, moving behind me to see where I was pointing. "Your star sign." I look over my shoulder.
He still looks confused. "Yours and Aries." I tell him.
He hums. "Then what is your? Show me." He whispered into my ear. "Okay, my birthday is August 1st, so I'm a Leo." I informed him.
I show him where Leo is located. "That's my new favorite." He whispers. I turn to face him. "You're so gorgeous, Mio Amore." He pushes the fallen hair behind my ear.
"Dance with me?" His voice is low and safe. I nodded. Ezra pulls his phone out, typing away at it before putting it on the table.
It begins to play 'Turning Pages.' By Sleeping at last.
Ezra turned back to me with a beautiful smile on his lips. His eyes sparkled. The moonlight made his tan skin glow.
"May I?" He stuck out his hand. I giggled at it. "Yes, you may." I said as his hand rested on my lower back, the other in my hand.
He moved us back and forth from side to side as the music played. Letting go of my waist and moving back just enough to spin me.
Pulling me back into his hard chest and dipping me back. I looked to the sky and saw it. Hope is a chance for a better life.
And that was when the stars aligned and everything made sense. I was falling like a fallen star.
