"Auntie!" Max exclaimed, running into my arms as I entered the house. "You can't believe what Leo tried to do to me, auntie." I laughed.
Leo comes wading in. His leg is still healing from when Max shot him. I still can't understand how Max got a gun.
"Whatever he is saying is a lie." Leo said with a chuckle. "Shut up, Leo; that's why April doesn't loves you." Leo's smile dropped. "That's not funny." He said this as a frown took over his lips.
"She does; she just doesn't know it yet." Leo said he was pulling me into a hug.
"Leo, get your hands off my wife." Ezra grumbled as he walked up the stairs with our things. "She's my best friend's bitch!" Leo yelled.
Wife, Mrs. King. I like the sound of that.
I looked down at the ring that is on my ring finger. I smile as I move the ring around.
I watch as Octavius struts towards Ezra. I brush off the uneasy feeling I get in my gut.

Taking a shower and brushing my teeth. I get ready for the little sleepover Max and I are having. I throw on one of Ezra's T-shirts and put on a pair of shorts.
Going up the stairs, I see Max struggling to make a fort. "I hate this." I hear him huff. "You need help, little dude?" He giggled at the nickname before giving me a nod.
He's getting so big. His birthday is in a month. He'll be five. Jesus, I feel old.
After an hour of trying to figure out how to make the fort, Max and I finally got it set up. We both let out a loud sigh as we fell onto our little blanket bed.
"Can we watch..." He paused before jumping up in excitement. "Okay, okay, I got it. What about Monsters Inc.?" I smiled, turning the TV on.
"This is the best day ever!" He exclaimed, snuggling up next to my side.
It's always the best day ever for him. It's cute; he always has a smile on his face, even when he's with Leo. He loves to say that he hates Leo, but I can tell he loves him.
I haven't seen Ezra or Octavius at all today. I'm starting to get worried. I called Ezra earlier today, but he didn't pick up. I shouldn't be this worried; he's a mafia king, for fuck's sake.
But you can't help feeling worried for someone you care about. Care isn't even the right word to describe the way I feel for Ezra.
When he's around, it feels like fire explodes inside my stomach. Or the way when he touches my skin, it feels like I'm on fire.
I can finally breathe when he's around; the weight gets lifted off of my shoulders. It probably sounds cliché, but how else am I supposed to explain this feeling?
When I was little, I always craved this feeling—the feeling of being truly loved by someone. I wanted a fairytale. But it all got crushed in an instant. One moment can change the way you see the world.
It changed when I was six, like a snap of a finger.
Flash back
"Dinner!" Mom called out. Kate and I ran into the kitchen. Dad hadn't come home yet, and mom had been cooking dinner since I got home from school.
"When's dad going to be home?" I asked mom as she put our plates on the table. "I don't know." She frowned.
He's never home; he's always out doing business trips—that's what my father called it. But I don't think that's it. I don't know what it is.
I flinch as I hear the door slam. "Is my damn dinner done?" He raised his voice as he walked into the kitchen, loosening the tie that was around his neck.
I just had a feeling in my tummy that something was wrong, but I wasn't sure. It was just a really bad feeling.
It made me not hungry anymore. He's been like this for a while now. I even saw him hit my mom, and it scared me.
I'm scared he's going to hit me too. Or worse, Kate.
We don't deserve that. Mommy didn't do anything; she just gave him the food he asked for.He hit my mom and said it was only because his food was too hot. My dad used to be the best dad in the world.
Until he got this new job and changed.
I went to grab my drink when I accidentally knocked over my soup. "Fuck!" My father roared, pushing off the chair.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" He yelled, gripping my arm. "Don't talk to her like that." My mom said she was trying to get him to let me go.
My arm was beginning to hurt as his grip on it tightened.
When his hand was raised, I knew right then I would never see my dad the same way.
Flash back ended
"Auntie, I'm tired." Max said he was cuddling into my side. Snapping me back into reality. "Okay, let's go." I say, lifting him up into my arms.
I can hear his little yawn as he wraps his tiny arms around my neck. "Can I sleep with you?" Max said.
"What about your mom?" He shook his head. "Mama and Daddy went on a date." He mumbled into my neck.
I walk up the stairs into Ezra's and my rooms.
I sigh, seeing that Ezra isn't home. I laid Max in bed, covering him up.I dialed Ezra's number into my phone. But still nothing. It's been nothing all damn day.
He's never been like this. I frustratedly ran my fingers through my hair. The fear begins to creep its way up. My anxiety is building up.
Why am I like this? I shouldn't be worried; he's fine.
