Kristian's eyes shot open, but to her surprise she was still in the room. She stared at the ceiling for a few seconds before looking over towards Tori, her mouth falling open. But then she froze. Tori was gone, the computer was gone, the wires were gone. The girl sat up and felt her face just to see that everything but her and the chair were gone.
What the?
Kristian looked around as she scratched the back of her head. Was this the test? The empty room? Her eyes scanned the room until she landed on her reflection. Something urged her forward, not physically, something mentally. It was like a feeling to go up to it, go up and stare at the girl in the mirror. She swung her legs over the chair and onto the floor, slowly walking over to the first mirror she could reach.
Krisitan stood in front of the mirror and stared at herself. She saw nothing good in her. Anytime she did seem to look at a mirror she recalled her parents telling her how pretty she was, how wonderful she was, well... whenever she wasn't being a disappointment, that is. Occasionally her family would go and have dinner with one of the other council members, and most of the time Kristian was dragged along to play as a good role model. She was her family's reputation at times, and it wasn't always for the better.
A sigh slipped past her lips and she found herself raising her right hand, gently touching the mirror. The glass was cold against her fingertips, it sent an odd chill down her spine.
Kristian's reflection copied her.
She grazed her middle and ring fingers over where her reflection's chin was.
Her reflection did the same.
She pulled away.
Her reflection did the same.
"Is this the test," Kristian then asked, watching carefully as she began to turn -- she flinched as she realized the room was now covered in mirrors.
Was she talking to herself for nothing? It's a test, so isn't someone monitoring her? Tori was just the one making sure she didn't break rules so there was someone else right?
After scanning a dozen reflections she froze on one, one of her reflections no longer copied her moves. The reflection had a smile, a smile that just felt sinister as she looked at it. The girl blinked, but the reflection just stared, the smile still on its face.
Then suddenly its lips moved and a voice that didn't belong to her said, "choose."
Kristian gulped, "choose?"
"Choose," it repeated
"Choose what," Kristian asked carefully.
The reflection raised its right arm and pointed. Kristian followed and found herself staring at two pedestals that now stood in the center of the room. One held a block of cheese, the other held a silver dagger. The girl walked over, some of her reflections did the same while others copied her fake. This was the test? A block of cheese and dagger?
"Can I take both," Kristian asked, not taking her eyes off of the two objects.
"No. Just one. Now, choose."
Kristian stared at the blade. She'd never touched a weapon before, and honestly her curiosity was what was controlling her. So, she reached down, her fingers curling around the blade's handle almost naturally. The handle was smooth and cold in her fingertips, the blade was clean and glistening to where she could faintly see her reflection in it. She gently held the blade with two fingers, she could practically feel how sharp it was.
