Five - Stiffy and Stiff

Kristian never wanted to feel that feeling of being weightless ever again. When she'd fallen off of roofs in the past, it was horrifying, but she at least knew that a ten foot drop was most likely going to break a bone, not kill her.

    (Most of the time.)

She always despised the feeling, yet she hadn't feared heights until now. She despised suddenly waking up at night, dreaming she was just falling, hated feeling it when she tripped but luckily caught herself. She always associated it as being in the middle of the sky, or simply tripping or falling out of bed. Things that were normal to feel, or just happened -- who the hell doesn't dream of falling out of the sky just to shoot up in a cold sweat?

She didn't actually ever dream of willingly jumping off of a building though.

Her screams ripped through her throat loudly and painfully. It felt like she'd been falling forever, the second she no longer saw the light time seemed to vanish. Had she entered hell? Was this the hell her father always described to her?

Her thoughts came to an abrupt stop.

Kristian gagged and choked on her own scream as her body was suddenly launched upwards. Her stomach flipped from the sudden change in direction -- wait, could she hear people?

Her body bounced again, she desperately tried to grab something, anything, to stop it but she couldn't. Her back landed on something springy again, but this time she didn't get flung as high, the next wasn't as high either. She slowly came to a stop and the girl stared at the sky -- well, hole in the ceiling. She could see the roof's ledge and wall, the bright blue cloudless sky.

Her eyes drifted and she followed what looked to be a wire to then be a net. She blinked and looked, struggling to push herself up just to realize she was on the net. Her fingers curled around and in the holes, finally she sat up and to her surprise she began to laugh. It wasn't fun laughter, it wasn't joyous, it was just... nervous and awkward. It was quiet, but still, even in a sudden loud room she could hear it.

Her eyes felt wet suddenly, she quickly reached up and wiped them.

Did I seriously start to cry?

The net the girl was laying on was suddenly pulled downwards. She rolled and just barely stopped herself at the edge, her fingers curling into the edge's holes quickly as she suddenly stared at a woman. The woman was surprised as she looked her up and down, but Kristian was just as surprised to see a woman with dark, crimson red hair.

A smile that was on the woman's lips grew faint as she murmured, "a stiff?.."

Kristian gulped and slowly nodded, "mhm..."

"Well, welcome to Dauntless," the woman said, still in a bit of a shock, "Got a name?"

Kristian stared for a moment. Maybe she could use a fake name? Her eyes drifted down, but no ideas came to mind. The woman seemed to notice this, Kristian unaware of the pitiful look she was being given.

"Twenty-third jumper," the woman announced, turning around and letting the girl down without another word.

There weren't a lot of cheers, there wasn't a lot of applause, not many really looked over at her. The woman pointed where to go and Kristian quietly found her way towards the other transfers. She crossed her arms tightly and just looked at the floor.

    She felt out of place.

She bit her lip and stared -- no. She practically glared at the floor. She felt angry, maybe she made the wrong choice. Maybe this was a mistake. It felt worse than it was in Abnegation, she felt out of place there and all but right now it felt like everyone was looking at her for just being there. She understood stiffs were rare, but she didn't expect the staring. And it wasn't impressive looks, it was looks of disgust or pity. Like her even choosing somehow ruined their own decisions.
